Default Custom Fiberglass enclosure for 12' Rockford Sub

Saw myoung84's post on ramfourm and it gave me the inspiration to build my own. Was planning on buying a box but there is nothing out there that comes close to having the space i need...plus, they are all ugly.

Im using a Rockford punch Hx2 12 (RFD2212). Old school i know, but i love this speaker. It requires 1.25 SqFt sealed. I have no idea if im going to meet this requirement but i guess ill see what happens. Took the cover off the passenger side storage well. All this is being done with home depot materials, 3/4 inch MDF and 3M Fiberglass resin. This is what i have so far and i will post more as i go. Hopefully will be glassing it this weekend. Have no idea where i will be mounting the amps as there is no clearance in between the top of the box and the bottom of the seat. I was thinking of rigging something up behind the rear seats. who knows, im open to suggestions.

heres some updates to my progress

2 layers of painters tape to protect the carpet.

IMG_0434 by aintn0stoppinme, on Flickr

i added a layer of aluminum foil on top of the tape to make the glass a little easier to remove.

IMG_0439 by aintn0stoppinme, on Flickr

First layer of glass

IMG_0441 by aintn0stoppinme, on Flickr

first layer done, after pulling it out the truck

IMG_0442 by aintn0stoppinme, on Flickr

3RD layer done, little messy... the stuff dries faster than you think, takes a little bit learn your workflow.

IMG_0445 by aintn0stoppinme, on Flickr

about to glue and nail the top piece on

IMG_0468 by aintn0stoppinme, on Flickr

after glue has set..sanded all edges down to make everything even and rounded off the corners.

IMG_0470 by aintn0stoppinme, on Flickr

next step..covering with vinyl. will post more pics when im done n let everyone know how it sounds.
