Default Rear Differential Questions...

I have an 03 ram 4x4 with a 5 speed trans.

My rear differential went out last week and I cannot find a reasonably priced replacement diff.

So, Here's my question.

Will a differential out of a 2wd from an 02 or an 04 ram bolt up and work in my 4WD 03?

I'm also wondering if there is any difference between the REAR diffs for RWD, and 4WD. (other than gear ratio)

I Know this isn't recommended, but I cannot afford to dump $1500 at the moment. A local salvage has these two trucks, and they are much cheaper.

Thanks guys!

Should be the same rear end either way and the ratios available were offered in both 2WD and 4WD models. Just get the same ratio and you should be fine.

Are you replacing the entire axle assembly? R&P gears? Axle shafts?
