Default Need Alarm System Advice

I just bought a 2005 Ram 1500 ST, no power door locks, no power windows, just a base vehicle. I am using "the club" but would like to add an alarm. What's the most cost effective alarm I can get? Can they add power door lock actuators on this truck so the alarm remote locks and unlocks the doors? I know I would like a starter disable device. Should I just go best buy or is there a base alarm that I can install so my truck can't be driven off by a kid with a screwdriver. I know I don't want a cheapo ebay noise maker but a real alarm system.

How much are you looking to spend? Do you want remote start with your alarm?

Best Buy actaully isn't too bad with that kind of stuff, but you should also look around at your local car audio type places and ask them some questions.

I've owned several alarm systems from a Walmart special (not recomended) to a basic Viper alarm, to a compustar, to what I have now which is a two way remote start/alarm pager system by Autopage that works from up to a mile away and pages the remote to let you know what's going on.

The alarms I've had range from about $250 for a decent one way alarm, to about $800 for the one I have now, with other systems falling somewhere inbetween.

A good auto specialty shop could probably fix you up with remote power locks, but I'm guessing it'll cost more than you want to spend.

IMHO this is the best alam system you can buy. They have NEVER had a car stolen after the alarm has been installed. They tested the alarm in Mexico. I had one on my 04 Dodge diesel and would recommend it to anyone. Do some research and then call them and ask about their systems.

I was just reading through their site. Looks like a pretty cool product and looks to be pretty effective. The only thing I couldn't find was the price. Anybody have any ideas on what one of these cost?

Sounds like a great device. Just not comfortable hacking up all the wiring and we all know sensitive our wiring harness can be. May not be a issue though since it seems to be installed by certified Ravelco persons.

First thing you should get is Jimmy Jammers.

I have and love the Viper 5902. Will prob' get the Smart Start Module w/ GPS tracking in the near future. Still use my faithful steering wheel club.

The installer came to my house and installed the device. I had the alarm system for over 5 years and never had a problem with it, including electrical problems. It will not keep people from breaking into your truck but it sure will stop them from taking it unless they tow it.

both Viper & Clifford have good alarm systems, from basic to WOW

if you don't want any one to drive your vehicle away

Ravelco Anti-Theft Device

The Ravelco Anti Theft Device is raw and unstoppable. In a world where alarms are overlooked, factory alarms and killswitches are laughed at, and tracking devices take time to report and unretrievable across borders. So now what?.... Well you will soon find out how the Ravelco is unlike any other anti theft product. Connected in the engine compartment it cannot be hotwired, it cannot be bypassed, and has a lifetime warranty

Those prices have gone up in 5 years. My area installer has it quoted as $470 on their web site.

I have not actually seen the system but from what I've read about it I would agree that it is bullet proof.
