Didn't mean to mislead anyone on the price. The price I estimated was based on what I paid 5 years ago. Even at the increased price I still believe that it is worth it.

It was clear in your posts that you were quoting a 5 year old price. I just wanted to update the info to todays rate. The site I checked had a note to call for "promotions" but I have a feeling it would still be over $400.

Just got an email reply from my area installer on cost.

Installation at your location is $469.95 plus tax $32.90 = $502.85. 10% discount if more than 1 vehicle done at the same time.

I had a Ravelco installed in my truck this past January, $500 bucks soup to nuts. The guy actually came to my house on New Years Day and did the install. Best piece of mind you'll ever have, but just to clarify, this IS NOT an alarm system. It won't do a darn thing if somebody breaks a window, but it will keep your truck in the same spot you left it. Nobody pays any attention to alarms anymore, IMO they're a solid waste of money.

The technician explained to me that it's a 16-pin connector that uses all black wiring, so there's no possible way a thief can decipher what's going where. To be honest, I can't even find the wiring under my hood!

You can see the Ravelco plug in this photo:

The Revelco site's statement that their security system has never been defeated is purely semantics. What is their definition of defeated? I can guarantee that a vehicle with this system can be towed away in less than 5 minutes. And if a thief wants the vehicle badly enough, they will just wait for you to come out with the Revelco key and take it from you at gun point. Best suggestion, purchase good auto insurance and rider policies for all the extras you add to the vehicle.

i disagree. if someone tows it, i do have insurance. I think the chances of that in my situation are very low. The ravelco is for the vast majority of thieves and that is what it is designed for. nothing will guard against a carjack. I think your analogy is off base. I lock my doors at night at home, if someone wants in bad enough they can shoot the hinges off, or run a car through my front door, or bring a saw and cut a hole, etc etc. I will still lock my doors at night.
