Default Spark Plugs??

How you guys doing, names Matt im new here, and i have a quick question about spark plus. The service manual says there are 2 different types of plugs in the engine for a total of 16 plugs, i belive it says to use regular cooper plugs for the top row and iridium plugs for the bottom row. My question is, would it be ok to use iridium plugs all the way around, or do i have to use 2 different types of plugs? Thanks for your time -Matt

cool thank you. next question, are the plugs the same, heat range wise? I pulled them out to check them they look the same length, so heat range is the only other thing im worried about, all the parts stores ive been talking to only have one listing, and when i tell them theres 16 plugs they just look at me like cows in a field.

As far as I knw they are. The only reason iridium is used in the bottom is because they're kind of a pain to get to, so they installed them to lessen the number of plug changes required.

Im friggin scared to even touch mine. I changed plugs before, but it took me a minute to even figure out where mine are. Then they each have their own coil? I haven't even checked them yet because of this.

in a pre-08 4.7 they are easy. especially if you have a cold air intake and already removed the resonator box.

remove the harness to the coil, take the 10mm nut off and pull the coil straight up. then drop a spark plug socket ona long extension..

changed the plugs in my dad's truck last weekend, it didn't even take an hour.

Yea the older pre 08 4.7 was the easiest motor I've ever changed plugs on, straight up and down. Don't forget to put some anti seize on the plugs since the heads are aluminum also when you remove the coil use some compressed air to blow the hole out before removing the plug.

ehhh idk i really wouldnt put anti-seize on the plugs with aluminum heads...aluminum can strip pretty easy and adding anti-seize i think would just make it want to slip eaiser....but if you've never had any trouble got for it....i've just been burned with anti-seize on aluminum heads...but they are very easy to get to, just make sure if you unplug anything plug it back in!

Ima look into it. Just been browsing plugs and haven't decided which I want. The NGK Iridiums are intriguing.

Think I'm going to O'reilly's tomorrow to get the Champion 439's. They are OE compatable.
