Default Pint or powder coat

I have spoken to two guys in my area that had the wheels painted. They felt that that was the least expensive, and best way to do it at the time, both now are looking into have them bead blasted, and then going to the powder coater. It seems that the brake and road dust is sticking in the paint and making them harder to care for. I have spoken to a powder coater, and his concern is an even covering of the wheel, but says he can do it. Cost is the hold up.

good luck, with what ever you chose, send us some photo's.

I'd suggest powdercoating over painting. It won't discolor with brake dust and other stuff out there, is more durable than paint and it looks good.

It is more expensive than painting but lasts a lot longer so considering cost over time it costs less.

I did my SRT wheels in 2008 and they still look great!

I am not sure if the Dupli-Color Shadow kit will work on those rims. I know they work on chrome but not sure about those. That kit is supposed to be a really good option if you want to paint your rims a black. I personally wouldn't paint them but like said above it is your truck!

Really you have 17" rims and to get a new set it would not be that expensive. That is the really good thing about having a small rim.

I'm with you on this. I don't care for the look of a solid black wheel unless you're going for the murdered look. I think there needs to be either chrome of polished aluminum showing for contrast. Solid black wheels, especially the matte finish just reminds me too much of military vehicles.

How about we see some pics of your truck? I agree though, unless you're going for the murdered look, some contrast would be good, even painting the calipers would help there.

if your going to paint them black i also say do some contrast but that is up to you....but if dont want to ruin your rims, go with ceramic brake pads, that is if your not hauling a heavy load all the time, ceramic brake pads have low brake dust and they can stop break squeal, i put them on my truck, makes it easier to clean the wheels when they're already clean lol

If you toss up a good side profile pic of your truck, and talk real nice to WermBang, he can likely touch-up the pix to show you what it would look like with black/Charcoal rims.

I like a mix of black and chrome too, I'm thinking of doing a mix on mine with the Duplicolor Shadow. Still trying to determine the final look.
