I'm still excited to hear the system and I'm glad I upgraded to it. I'll be fiddling with the settings and I'm sure I'll get it to my liking.

Arghh this is my first vehicle order and I'm almost regretting it. The wait is too much, and I'm only 10 days in!! haha I guess it's bittersweet. I will eventually get the truck exactly how I want it.

Fade it to the back a little.

Thanks for the info, all be darn, there is a sub back there. However, that should tell you something about the quality of the system when when you have to the mid and treble at weird settings just to reach acceptable sound quality.

RamMan I do hope that you enjoy the system in your new truck. Clearly it is subjective as to if it sounds good or not. I was just expecting so much more from a TEN speaker system!

In 1991 I ordered a brand new truck with the factory 'elite' sound system. I came with (count them) 1 - 5" speaker in each door, and 1 - 5" speaker in each rear cab panel. The head unit put out 12w RMS to each of the 4 speakers, and it sounded pretty decent....for the era. In 1992 I installed a pair of 7" Alpine subs under the back seat, and boy did I turn heads with it!

Fast forward to 2010; new Ram with Alpine 10 speaker system. Absolutely blows away the 1991 'elite' system, but then again, times have changed, and the expectations have changed with them. For an OEM sound system, this is pretty decent. It's not over the top in any of it's capabilities, but for moderate listening, it's pretty hard to beat. If you want bass that massages your behind and promotes regularity, well, it's not quite up to that task, but in the evolution of OEM sound systems, I for one, am very pleased, and when I grow tired of it and want more, I know there are plenty of after market products out there that will allow me to tailor my sound system to meet what ever desire I have.

what's the stock setup made up of? i see 1 in each door, co-axials/or crappy-ass full range i'm assuming and two in the dash (again, co-axials?)
i've got a nice set of SQ separates i'd like to switch the fronts out for and then find something/if anything for the rear fill...don't think my 2 15's will fit without losing the rear seats, but damn it's tempting

also, how does the dash lid come out? to remove the dash speakers

thanx

Overall my impressions are inline with Brads, for a factory system it is more than acceptable and turns heads. I have no real complaints however I am switching out the head unit and putting in a Sony touch screen double din.

I was very unhappy with mine at first, but it's growing on me. The actual clarity with a cd, ipod, or hard drive (given the quality of mp3 is good) is outstanding in my opinion... which clarity is what it's all about anyways, but I know what you mean about the bass not being very loud. Some songs are way better than others though dont forget, and with the radio and serius it completely blows, both clarity and loudness. I don't think just changing the sub would do anything at all because the sub actually sounds excellent when given the right power. I might just look for a better amp or something.

Well, after turning the mid basically all the way down and the bass and treble up, I am of the opinion that this system doesn't totally suck any more. That is as complementary as I can get of it.

However, I spent about 2 hours driving around today and I did enjoy the stereo in my new truck for the first time.
