Default What's wrong with my truck?

I have A 2004 Doge Ram 1500 quad cab, long bed, with a 5 speed manual tranny and the other day I parked on a slight hill, I was in first gear when parked, I got out of my truck and it was creeping backwards down the hill, I got back in the truck and sat there and wondered why in the heck its moving down the hill? The truck was in 1st gear but drifting back down the hill pretty noticeably! I sat there for 5 minutes and it drifted about a foot!! Now Im afraid to park on any hills and I been useing my e-brake everytime I park anywhere now. I also put it in reverse and it still drifted. Is there something wrong with my transmission? clutch? What Is wrong?

Yeah i got the same truck and it has always done the same thing. I'm thinking it is probably because they are geared pretty high. I want to go to a 4:10 ratio and i am betting it does the same thing. I usually wear out the e-brake so i havent even had one for a while but since i know it will roll i will put it in 4 low when i park. I have had to do it on steep inclines on boat ramps and i aint lost it yet. Its a pain but so are changing those pads all the time.

I used to park on a slight hill at work all the time and I don't ever rember my truck doing this. If I would have left my truck go and not noticed it drifting it would have been at the bottom of the hill. It just kept going. My e brake is getting pretty wore out too I guess its time to change the rear pads.

There's nothing wrong with your truck. Relying on the drive train to hold it on a hill is a bad idea - that's what the parking brake is for.
