Default E85 conversion kit install coming soon

Well I have decided to get an E85 conversion kit, it's easy to do and here in California gas prices are ridiculous! I'll be paying a whole lot less for E85, only thing is I have to drive about 15min to get to the closest E85 station. But I'm gonna bring some gas cans with me to store in the garage so I don't have to keep driving out there all the time. As long as I use my programmer to adjust my air/fuel ratio it shouldn't hurt me to much on the gas millage and I'll be able to get my moneys worth. Ill take pictures when I get it in and get her done.

Yes it does actually, but it's always posted at 105 octane but on wikipedia it says it's really 94 octane...My friend races his Subaru STI on the weekends, which are turbocharged, and he said he is going to get one to move up in class. So I was like, I'm gonna check that out and see if they have a kit for mine. Sure enough they do and you get around 30rwhp from it, but you have to adjust your air/fuel ratio from a gas 14.7:1 to the E85 air/fuel ratio which is around 9.79:1 so that you don't loose like 20% gas millage. So once I get it in and adjust the air/fuel mixture I'll let you know what happens. It might take a couple of fill ups after the first 50/50 gas/E85 to get the computer to level out though

On a side note I see you've been getting some mods from airram.com...I'm looking to fully rebuild my engine once a get a job and was wondering how their customer service is. I only have their power wire.

How do you like your H/O cam? I'm gonna twin turbo mine in the next two years so I'm gonna get a more aggressive one, but for moderate engine upgrades hows it work?

yeah i've had good service from airram i bought my headers their and H/O cams, but the cams....man low end tq like no other mixed with headers and i just finished my homemade C.A.I today. i got a ton of low end now, just need to retune it, but im think im going to go to 212 cams here soon, but with any mod, probably needs a tune...hows the power wire? notice a little difference in power?

Sounds good. No, no real difference in the power wire. Takes about five seconds to install but no real difference performance wise to the rear wheels. True with any mod it's best to get her tuned again

It take 1.8x the amount of ethanol to make the same BTU's of gasoline. With E85, that equates to about 1.5x the E85 to create the same BTU's of gasoline. If you can buy E85 for less that $2.50 a gallon, you might be ahead of the game.

I think E85 is nothing more than a government 'feel good' fuel. They feel good because it's made from a renewable resource. The reality is that it takes a huge energy input to make it, so there is no ecological benefit, and it takes a huge amount more of it to run the engine, so there are no mileage benefits.

Let us know how you make out, and what you think of it in the end. Everyone here that has tried it, has been very disappointed....especially with the cost of operation.

One benefit.....real high octane!

well one benefit of E85 it takes less oxygen for it to burn..so...while it may make less btu's....an i also would think that less btu's...the cooler the motor...the better it runs, but you are right...i also think it's a government 'feel good' fuel, plus..it's actually worse for the environment lol...i thought thats what the EPA was after since 96 OBD I...emissions...guess not when the government is behind it lol

It does burn cooler, so it's kinda like a liquid intercooler...It won't be much of a benefit like others have said because of the MPG unless you tune the air/fuel ratio, that is critical in order to see the benefits of the gas and E85 prices. I won't get as many MPG as gas but once it's tuned I'm expecting a loss of only 5-10% which is a huge difference seeing how it's almost a dollar more for 91 octane over here in the Bay Area
