I have a cobra 29 and a k40 magnet mount on the roof from my local pilot truck stop. Tuned it myself is incredibly useful and fun when four wheeling or on the highway with friends saves me from tickets and in a emergency god forbid ill most likely be happy I had it. I can talk from miles away one of my favorite mods I dont see why everyone doesnt have one setups can be really good and real cheap to if you shop around.

i put my cobra 29 on the meter at work the other day to play around with it a little bit, and its putting out anywhere between 35 and 40 watts. pretty good for a barefoot cobra.

I agree, Cobra makes a good cheap unit. I have had a couple. First one in my jeep got ruined from too much water, but other than that I never have had any trouble. Having a CB has saved my butt a couple times out in the sticks. I got a local farmer when I ran out of gas since my gas gauge was busted on my jeep and I miscalculated how many miles I had run on that tank.

Also good for getting around speed traps and traffic jams in cities you don't know. Listen to the truckers talk for a while before hopping on with them. If you sound like one, they will be more likely to help you. If you sound like some "four wheeler" you likely won't get any help at all.

I have several CBs, it is required by law for me to have one in my business
I also rent my portable units out to the California Highway Patrol & sometimes semi truck drivers & other Oversize Load Escorts, when their own CBs are not working correctly
I have
2 Midland 40 channel hand helds
1 Cobra 75WXST portable that i mounted in a small suitcase w/ external speaker
1 Uniden PC78XL
1 RCI-6900 F150
2 Wilson magnetic mount antennas, a Lil Wil & a Wilson 1000, & permanent mount Wilson in my roof
i have learned that the best microphone is a Road King RK56

I just set up my CB, a midland 77-250cxl that I got as a gift a bunch of years back, and a new 4' firestick and stake hole mount with fold down. Haven't figured where I'll put the CB yet.
I go camping and beach wheelin and feel its invaluable to have, especially where cell phone service is shotty at best

not a good place for the cb there. it can overheat and you wont be able to hear the internal speaker. you can get a center hump mount for the cb and cut a small hole in the carpet to run the power wire and coax through.

I've had my small uniden between my passenger seat and consol for over year now with out problems. Even after 3hr+ drives its not even warm. It was nice cause I put a cigerette plug on the radio and just ran the coax out the under the seat and out the back door.

Genos garage makes nice mounts for Rams
