Unhappy Auto dimming exterior mirrors

New to this forum, but it looks like a great place!!!

I just purchased a 2011 Ram Crew Cab 4X4 with the Hemi. While I love the truck, I seem to have a question that currently the salesman cannot answer. The question is this: the window sticker says that the truck is equipped with auto dimming exterior mirrors. The mirrors do not dim. Is there something that I have to do to make them function? I see that the woner's manual says that the exterior mirrors dim when the rear view mirror dims. Currently, mine do not work.

Is there something in the computer or something else I need to do to make them function?

Thanks in advance!!!

Are they factory tow mirrors? You would know this because they would also rotate upwards.

If they are regular mirrors, and do not auto-dim, I would be interested in knowing information you find out.

I bought an auto-dimming pair on ebay and installed them, and they also do not dim.

Can this function be turned on or off in the EVIC?

There is a button on the rear view mirror and a small green light that comes on when auto dimming is engaged.

Where is this button, on the actual mirror or the drivers interior door controller? I haven't seen this on mine and it supposedly has all the bells and whistles. I'll have to look this one up in the owners manual.

Taken from the OM:
Driver’s Automatic Dimming Mirror — If Equipped
The driver’s outside mirror will automatically adjust for glare from vehicles behind you. This feature is controlled
by the inside automatic dimming mirror and can be turned on or off by pressing the button at the base of the
inside mirror. The mirror will automatically adjust for headlight glare when the inside mirror adjusts.

Automatic Rear View (Interior) Dimming Mirror — If Equipped
This mirror automatically adjusts for headlight glare
from vehicles behind you. You can turn the feature on or
off by pressing the button at the base of the mirror.Alight
next to the button will illuminate to indicate when the
dimming feature is activated.

To answer your question, jsims006, yes they are factory tow mirrors. According to the manual, the outside mirrors are supposed to dim when the rear view mirror dims. I have tested the inside rear view mirror, and it works fine. However, the outside mirrors do not dim.

Mine are auto dimming too but they really don't dim a lot at all.

So I tinted the front windows...that worked pretty good.

Mine work and what I notice is a slight green tinting in all the mirrors when a car or truck are within twenty or thirty feet of my rear bumper.
