Default Positive Law Enforcement Encounters

It seems there's been a lot of debate on LEo's doing their jobs lately and all I'm seeing is mostly bad press from people. I decided to start a thread that will go in the opposite direction and allow people to tell of the positive experiences they've had with law enforcement. Sure, everyone is grateful when the police shows up at the scene of an accident or a crime but what about traffic stops?

I've had two such experiences. I was damn sure guilty of speeding on both occassions and both officers let me off with a warning when they spotted my military ID in my wallet. I was prepared to sign the citations and take my medicine but both officers were kind enough to let me go.

So who else has a similar story to tell?

The most positive experience I ever had is when I was 17 and got into a little trouble. The officer(who is now one of my best friends) was kind enough to let me join the Marines instead of dealing with the possible legal consequences. He was so nice he even drove me to the airport and waited until I boarded the plane. It had a life long impact---

Those are great stories guys!
I have actually never had a run in with law enforcement, I have been fortunate. As a kid there was a constable that use to come into the school and go to each class and do little talks about bike safety and stuff like that. I dunno I guess from an early age I was taught to respect them.
I have been pulled over once, I lived in a sleepy little town and it was 1 in the morning I was going to pick up my ex from work. Some odd reason I pannicked and got out of the car and undid my seatbelt...then I realized what I was doing got back in the car and did up my belt. The officer asked if it was my first time being pulled over. I told him yes, that I was really nervous because I had never been pulled over before. He took my license and registration asked me where I was going and all that. I told him. He was very nice, told me to have a good night and gave my back my license. He was very nice about it though.

Respect goes a long way. I can only think of one time a cop was actually trying to provoke me into something and because my Mother tought me to respect authority - although painfully at times with a belt across my backside - he did not win and I went home. There is no room for pride, only yes sir and no sir regardless of the situation and the attitude you might perceive yourself receiving from the officer. Almost every time I get out of tickets by simply being nice. When I don't, I do the deferred adjudication for 90 days and it disappears.
Amazing.
99% of the time when a cop pulls me over, I deserve it because I was breaking the law. Period.
The last time I was puled over, about 4 years ago for doing 65 in a 55, the officer who was quite younger than me actually thanked me for my courtesy toward him during a traffic stop. BTW, He said have a good day and sent me along my way with my money still in my wallet.

Coming from a small town and knowing everyone, when you got pulled over by the cops you just got out and walked back to greet them.
My first time to get pulled over by a city cop was quite different. I'm 6'1" about 265 and my buddy was 6'5" about 280, we're both dressed in black dusters (winter time) and have very long hair. We were in Irving, TX at 2am looking for a late night pizza place when he wasn't paying attention and blew a red light with 2 cops sitting at the intersection. He just pulled over and waited on them. They pulled up behind us at which time we both got out of the truck, him on the driver's side me on the passenger. The officer immediately drew down on us yelling "get back in the car" at which time we immediately showed him our hands, said "yes sir" and go back in the car. After everything was checked out and cleared, we all stood around laughing about it with the officer giving us a life lesson about how to big old country boys should act with city cops.

my best experience with officers was when i had recently put dual 2 chamber Flow Master exhaust on my 1956 Chevy 1/2 ton w/ a 350 cu in engine, w/ a Schneider Street & Strip cam.
One of the officers in my town pulled me over & gave me a quite complete vehicle inspection, all the lights worked, good rubber, windshield good, mirrors good, etc
He then had me start it up, & promptly wrote a loud exhaust ticket, here it is called a FIX IT ticket, after you get the problem fixed, you go find an officer & they sign it off, if its fixed.
I took it the next day to the Police Station, parked away from the building walls, went inside, asked the Desk Officer to sign it off, she came outside & had me start it up, i let it idle, then she asked me to give a bit of throttle, i did, she talked into her radio microphone, more officers came outside,
I'm thinking that something was going on, she had me then give it about 1/2 throttle & then release, i thought that they were going to take my truck.
They told me to shut it off & we went inside & my ticket was signed off, i was told that it sounded good & then as i walked out the door, i heard someone say that a ticket should not have been issued.
i walked out smiling

Now in my town, every Wednesday in the warmer months, they basically close Main Street to have the Classic Car Show, some vehicles show up with no muffler at all

BlueJet will enjoy this, so will you other car nuts

On a very long drive across the country, I was passing through Northern Ontario (for those who don't know, northern ontario is 80 billion kilometers long, with 23 people living there... all named Frank... even the girl!). I was cruising along at 120km/hr (speed limit's 90 km/hr BTW) but I had been driving for 16 hrs at this point, so I was on total auto pilot. Well, get pulled over and female cop apparenly has a thing for cowboys in trucks, so my $450 ticket gets reduced to '10 over' which is $125. That was nice of her, I know I was speeding, so I got a break. fast forward 11 hrs, after 4 hrs of sleep, I'm pulling through Thunder Bay, and get pulled over again! 11 hrs later! I figured I was screwed; nope, cop asks where I'm heading, answer was moving back to university. He also asked me straight out when my last ticket was, and I didn't lie, I just admitted it was the night before. For being honest and on my way to school, HE reduces my ticket to $125 as well! What could have amounted to $900 in tickets was only $250, guess they just were in good moods.

Kurtis, I don't think I've ever gotten a speeding ticket where the fine wasn't reduced. It just goes to prove that not getting snotty with the officer can pay big dividends even though you still get a citation.
