Default question about exhaust resonator

i am trying to keep my exhaust stock, i picked up a used exhaust after my muffler come lose inside, i have an 03 RAM W/4.7 and i got a good deal for an exhaust off a newer model truck, it has a RESONATOR behind the muffler around where it goes over the rear end, is it safe to use on the older 03 model that did not have the res. it seems like it gave me a slight deeper tone then without,????

The resonator's only real function is to quiet down the exhaust and maybe slightly modify the sound. So I don't think you have to worry about it causing any issues, with or without. Seems like most everyone gets rid of their factory resonators when they add an aftermarket exhaust. I would stick with whichever one sounds the best to you.

so what you are saying is that it can cause that a slight deeper sound while geeting up to speed,, if thats whats causing it to sound a little diffrent, well i am likening it, because i was always told that it has it run a little quiet not deeper, then again that is with an open muffler and resonator between cat & the muffler,??

thanks
mark

it should be fine, the only thing the resanator does is keep the drone out of the cab and also to reduce exterior sound too, but yes getting rid of it will loudin' it up a bit

it actually has a slight deeper sound getting uo to speed then my other stock exhaust system did without the resanator towards the end of my pipe, once i am up to speed i can't notice it, thats why i was wornding if its normal,, ( i like the deeper sound at acceleration, i just hope it's the resanator that caused the slight sound change and not another bad muffler ),?????

It will also be quieter with the resonator on it. It won't hurt at all to have it there.

well after going to the dealer to find the answer i was really looking for,, on the newer model 05-up exhaust with the resanator behind the muffler will give off a very slight deeper sound then without, thats why i am noticing a slight diffrent sound then my old stock system without the resanator,,it's the way the sound waves bounce throu the res. i like that slight deep sound at acceleration, to be honest if you never driven w/out the res. and then with the res. it's not deep enough to notice, but being i drove it both ways i can notice it,, so i guess it the location of the resanator rather it really makes it quieter or the very slight change it tone,!!

thanks to everyone for the resanator input,, MY QUESTION WAS ANSWERED ABOUT THE RESANATOR BY A MASTER TECH AT ( NORTH TAMPA DODGE ) where i had work done on my truck and did not sell me anything i did not need so i trust what they say,, SO WITH THAT SAID I HOPE I ANSWERED ANY OTHER QUESTION ABOUT HOW THE RESANATOR REALLY WORKS, in some cases it does not make the exhaust any quieter, it may sound a little better tone,,

i hope this helped everyone out, THANKS NORTH TAMPA DODGE,,

THANKS AND HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, STILL TRYNG TO learn how to post a pics. of my truck,,

thanks
mark

My '06 with the 4.7 was fantastic sounding with a mod exhaust out to duals, I was glad to have opened her up.
