Looks like that is the Notice from the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Chrysler said it because the AXLE BEARING were not getting enough oil

this reads that the PINION BEARING is not getting enough oil

the pinion bearing is a lot lower than the axle bearings, that means that all 3 bearings were not getting enough lubricant
stupid design or misread diagram by who ever got the contract to make the differential PUMKIN

want to bet that every Ram with 8,000 miles on it that had to get the Replacement cover, will have a pinion bearing seal leaking before long

I had a 2011 4.7L That I had the recall done, traded it in for a 5.7L and the dealer and web site said this one dose not have a recall.

Got the recall done today. It seems this has also taken care of my low speed drivetrain vibration while MDS is active... or maybe it's just a placebo effect.

Had it done...took about hour and a half I am told, although had to wait for the back-ordered parts prior (about two weeks). Glad I wasn't doing any serious towing yet. Not a real good start to a new truck (along with them forgetting to install the hitch) but at least it is done with and hopefully no worries now that camping season is starting!

I just took delivery three weeks ago. Wouldn't you think that they could have fixed this before delivery?

Had mine done today. Apparently Chrysler is being sort of stingy about sending out the parts needed to make this repair.

If I were you, Hemi flash, I wouldn't wait for a letter. I never received any letter. I got my tip from here and confirmed it from the Ram website. I would print out the recall from here and take it with me to the dealer. Don't wanna wait too long, as this could cause a crash if the pinion bearing locks up from lack of lubrication.

Sure glad I found this forum! My Dad finally gave in and bought himself a new truck for his 85th birthday and was so happy with his big black beauty until he got a call about this recall. Thanks to you-all, he's now a much better informed owner and can talk more intelligently when dealing with the service department. I will remind him to ask the guy if he ordered the sealer to go with the repair kit! He's only got 400 miles on his truck and has parked it until it gets the repair - doesn't want to crash with his dog in the truck.

Default Mine just done

We called dealer (Chandler, AZ) Tuesday due to rear diff smell when pulling a camper and they told us about the recall. Had part in stock and installed today. Told me they don't know why I smelled RD fluid. Not sure I trust that answer but we will be concerned next trip out with trailer. BTW, trailer weight dry is 6,600lbs - tow up mountain.
