Make your appointment now, seems the parts are hard to come by in some places.

GTYankee, I was told that the front pinoin bearing wasn't getting enough lube because the fluid wasn't getting to it due to too much flow below it. So this is something that simply gets hammered into the port to restrict flow and with the new cover the rear can be filled to a higher level. The only thing you'll need to remember for the future is that now they recommend 5oz instead of 4oz of the posi additive. Most mechanics already fill the rear until it flows out the fill hole so that shouldn't be an issue.

Got my K36 recall installed Tues. the 12th of April. Took about 3 hours. The problem with the recall install kit is when the Dodge engineer wrote down what was required in the kit he failed to include the silicone gasket sealer. When the dealers get the kit they have to place a second order for the silicone. That is what the delay is.

They made a mess with the orange sealant.
And if a mechanics shop doesn't have gasket material or silicone sealant they shouldn't be in business, that's crazy and a waste to have to order sealant for each cover install kit! Especially when the put so much on it oozes all over the place

Also I thought the new cover was supposed to have a fill hole, relocated fill, or something...

It looks like it is just a rear cover with a hole drilled in it, that has a rubber or plastic push in plug in it

I believe the recalled units did NOT have a fill hole in the rear cover, it was in the front casting & it was too low in the casting
if it was too low in the casting, 2 things could have been happening
1) the oil slinger at the pinion gear couldn't reach the oil to keep it lubricated
2) no oil could get into the axle shafts & out to the axle bearings for lubrication

i did notice that not only was the recall from Chrysler Corp. but, it also has a NHTSA number

Ram 1500 trucks from model year 2011, which have been manufactured since September 2009, have a growl-y rear axle bearing which might seize, possibly causing the truck to stall.
Chrysler Group is recalling more than 56,000 2011 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks over an issue with the rear axle bearing.

On some models built between September 2009 and December 2010, not enough lubricant was placed in the rear axle bearing. As a result, the bearing could seize, increasing the risk of an accident.

The bearing failure typically occurred within the first 500 miles, preceded by a groan or grinding noise, according to some reports.

Chrysler will notify affected owners in February. Dealerships will add 20 ounces of fluid to the rear axle bearing.

here is the actual recall

I still have not received the "official" letter from Chrysler yet.
I found out on the website when I ran my VIN...
