Default trailer brake control not working!

so I installed the factory brake control about a month ago and finally had a chance to hook up the trailer and it doesn't work. without the trailer hooked up it shows the trailer icon with an exclamation mark, when i slide the manual brake lever it displays the gain setting (5.5) with the trailer hooked up it shows the same icon with exclamation mark but when i slide the lever it displays 99 and does not activate the brakes it seems that it doesn't acknowledge my trailer as being hooked up but when i turn on the truck lights the trailers marker lights come on. anybody have any ideas about whats this type of problem? thanks

Did you get the computer flashed to recognize the controller? I'm not 100% sure but I think that is the only way that it will work.

Shouldn't have to get it flashed. What types of brakes are on the trailer? It will not work with electric over hydraulic. Make sure the connections are good at the controller and trailer and that the trailer brakes actually work.

the brakes are all electric on a 2009 travel trailer all connections are fine the trailer is getting power from the truck as the marker lights work the display on the controller does not show that the trailer is hooked up i think i'll hook up yhe old control tommorrow and see if that works ok i'm wondering wether the factory control is bad or if there is a wiring issue with the truck itself

problem solved after further investigation i found that one of the 2 tabs for the positive connection on the trailer's pigtail was bent over, after unbending it it made a proper connection and everything including brakes work fine. off to the dealer on tues to get recall rear end cover and to get the brake controller flashed

Let us know just what the dealer does with the rear end repair

i wonder if they are just going to remove the cover & drill a hole in the rear cover & stick a push in plastic or rubber plug into it & fill it back up with fluid

i don't think that they will pull the cover & drill 2 holes & thread them, one for a proper drain with a magnetic plug & a threaded fill hole up at the level of the axle shafts where it belongs, so that gear oil can get out to the axle shaft bearings out by the shaft ends

Cool Whats the flash for then?

So what does the flash do? I know you are modifying the computer settings, but what do you get out of it? Does ity simply get rid of the exclamation mark?

Where did you get the controller. I called my dealer and they said "back ordered."

I know there have been a few threads, but all the links that get posted do not go to a specific page, but to just a site and none of the part numbers that have been posted take me to a specific part.

I really would rather have the factory one instead of some little box hanging under my dash, but is it worth the price?

I will be hauling a travel trailer as well.

Thanks, and good job digging into the problem. KISS right! Keep it Simple Stupid! Not calling you stupid, but thats the saying right...
