The only time I have ever replaced it on my vehicles is when the dummy light comes on. So if you do not have a check engine light then it is working and does not need replacement. That is one of those parts it is either working or it is not, so don't fix it if it is not broken. Now on the other hand if your CEL is on and the code reflects the O2 sensor then replace it as soon as you can. They can have a negative effect on fuel mileage and prolonged not changing a bad one also on performance. It is not something that will normally leave you stranded on the side of the road. But always listen to the dummy light and get whatever causes the light to come on fixed as soon as you can because a light for an O2 sensor may not cripple the vehicle but if your dummy light is already lit up and something goes out that would cripple a vehicle then people tend to ignore the light until they are stranded on the side of the road.

Long winded response for a simple answer of - NO.

I normally just do it when the sensor fails.
