Default 2011 R/T Rear Diff Cover

Actually replaced the rear cover on my R/T "before" I heard about the rear diff recall. PML cover adds about 0.7 quarts over stock. It's sand cast aluminum with raised cooling fins. Notice the fill point at axle tube level with a magnetic drain at the bottom. Cleared the factory sway bar with no problems (3/4") but the panhard bar is close (3/8"). However, since the axle's fore and aft movement is controlled by the upper and lower control arms, 3/8" clearance is not a problem. I topped the rear diff with Royal Purple synthetic and MOPAR's sure-grip additive. With the aluminum cooling fins, added capacity and Royal Purple, the rear diff temp is only warm to the touch after towing 4800 lbs.

Nice mod. It looks nice too. How does the recall affect the rest of us? Did some of them just have small pans?

the thing about the stock cover is it has to be removed to drain the rear end, an idiot designed it, must have been a FURD or YOTA reject
in 2009 the rear plate had a fill & fluid check hole in the rear cover, but, still no drain plug
the newer ones fill from the main body of the differential, in the casting, not a bad idea, but the same designer put the fill/check point lower than the axle shaft tubes & the oil can't get to the axle bearings, no wonder Ferd fired him, if you want to keep the axle bearings lubed, you have to drive on a side hill & turn around & go back the other way

now they are coming up with a fix, drill & thread a hole in the rear differential cover, that is above the half way mark, so the axle bearings can splash the oil around, the way it should have been in the first place

Chrysler makes a crappy automatic transmission, just like Ferd does, that is why its going to replaced with a German transmission & Ferd will follow suite

the Corporate 9.25 differential has been around forever & some stupid idiot messed up & didn't put the fill/inspection plug high enough on the new vehicles

i'm losing faith

for several years, AAM made the 9.25 axle for Dodge
in 2011 Dodge changed to using the ZF axle

I don't know if the bolt pattern is the same on both brands
This may help, this what i have on mine
