Default 01 Ram 1500 Sport & CB

just baught my brother a 2001 Ram 1500 Sport, He's out in CA on a training mission for USMC and he asked me to put a CB in his truck, he wants the same set up i have
---->http://www.rrcom.com/pictures/Unidencb/pc78elite.html but he wants me to put hick sticks on his. does anyone know how to do this ? best set to buy or just go with a magnetic antenna on the roof like mine. Also having an issue of where to mount the bugger, would really like to keep it off the floor since he plans on hauling around as many of his Marine buddies as possible

also looking into getting a new antenna for my ram, im looking to get max range out of my CB. right now i have a 3' wilson, idk what model. ive been told by friends to look into getting a wilson 8500 dunno to much about all this so any input would be help.

thanks guys n gals

It's been years since i played with CB stuff, but from what i learned...

the antenna needs to be at the highest and centermost point of a vehicle. i ran a bunch of different configurations, and the best was in the middle on top. i even ran a "1/4" stick on the back driver's side corner of my plymouth and had awesome range (8-10 miles) out front, but couldn't get crap out back. maybe 2-3 miles. that was with stock stuff. no amps or anything else.

as far as brands, that i can not help out on. sorry. i still have my old (from 1992) Midland radio, but will have to buy a new antenna since my K40 is toast.

also, if you don't have one, you need to get an SWR meter for best results. cake to hook-up and use. made a HUGE difference.

i soo miss those days.

on a sidenote, make sure to put something between the antenna base and your paint (unless you hard mounted it, then ignore). we used to panty hose. i know it's weird, but it worked. there's probably better material these days

I have a trunk lid mount antenna on a taurus and have a piece of alumiunum foil between the mount and the deck lid since the mount is the ground.
I also have dual fiberglass antennas mounted off the tool box.
I bought a cheaper set of the internet and they are actually the same as what they sell at radio shack but ALOT cheaper.
Like it was side the higher your antennas the better your reception but metallic surface are for the waves to "bounce off of is another key to getting good range.
I think its kinda hit or miss on whether my, or any of my friends dual fiberglass antennas mounted from the bed get better reception then my buddies single magnet mount on his roof.
