Default Can an 05 Run E85?

Well, we've finally got an E85 seller here in Lakeland (not sure how long they've been selling it...just found out a few days ago)

I've done some research, and came across this page that says my truck can run E85, but I want to be 100% sure.

http://www.aboutmyplanet.com/science...fuel-car-list/

If it's not E85 ready, what do I need to do to get it ready for E85?

The truck is a 2005 Ram 1500 ST SC LB WT Auto

It may have a FlexFuel badge on it if it is E-85 ready. Also check the gas cap. It should indicate if the truck is E-85 ready. Last resort is to check the VIN. It will indicate wether or not the truck is FlexFuel. You will probably have to do a search for the 2005 FlexFuel code in the VIN. Hope this helps.

It doesn't have the tagging on the gas cap, or body badging, which is why I am curious to find out exactly what I'll need to do.

If it's not going to cost a lot to get it E85 ready, then I will gladly do so, for the long term returns on fuel savings. (.40 a gal is a LOT when you aren't able to work)

From what I've heard about E85 is that you get really bad gas mileage after you try using it; less energy density compared to gas or not tuned correctly to accept it. In my opinion it wouldn't be worth the headaches.

I wouldn't put it in my truck even if it were compatible.

Even with the decreased MPG (which can be accounted for in tuning), I would still be seeing a lower cost per mile for my fuel.

Currently I'm getting about 24-26 city, and 30-32 highway with my truck on gas...but it's getting too expensive, E85 is significantly cheaper here.

I'm thinking it would have to be at least 25% cheaper to break even.

You're going to burn through more E-85 then you will gasoline, upwards of 20% more. You get good mileage now, it will not be beneficial to switch over as although you might be paying less for it, you're going to go through more of it.

No way would I be complaining about that kind of gas mileage, I would give my left arm to get that kind of mileage. If that's costing you too much, you should probably just go with a Prius lol.

Check out change2E85.com for a kit for your truck...I just got one for my truck and the 2011 version of this kit states the old units got 20/30 percent less these are more like 5/15 percent less, with time comes advancements in technology. But I have yet to go through a full tank of 50/50 mix to get to the first 100% mix of E85. Time will tell. Plus at that site you get $50 off until the end of the month.
