Default Thinking of purchasing a travel trailer

I have been looking around the rv dealerships in my area and I think I have narrowed my search down. I am looking at a North Trail NT31BDSS with a dry weight of 6740 and a gross weight of 8600. The hitch weight is 880lbs, and I will definatly go with a weight distribution system. Anyone have any thoughts or experience on how this setup should tow? I have the towing package and the 3.92 gears but I do not have the factory brake controller installed yet, I plan on ordering one next week. I have read that there is some issues installing the controller, but I have verified that I do have the 2 plugs under my dash...so hopefully no problems there.

Default hope i can help

in resonse to your towing questions:

I have a 2009 truck the same as yours with the same rear gears, and tow a travel trailer that weighs about 7000 lbs with gear and a 750 lb tongue weight. The trailer towed fine with a weight distributing system. I added airbags in the rear coils and could not beleive how much better it towed. I reccommend buying Airlift bags for your truck part #60818.

Here is a link http://www.suspensionconnection.com/...-air-bags.html

You will not be dissapointed

Do you have the compressor, or are they just a fill once kind of a thing?

i do not have the compressor. I use a bike pump to fill the bags as they only hold 35 psi max. Using a bike pump lets you tweak them to the pressure you want easier. I plumbed the bags seperatly to avoid side to side air sloshing when the lines are teed together. using a compressor is tough as you always pass what you want in psi.

An air bag alternative worth checking out is the Timbre SES kit.
http://www.timbren.com/ses-kits.htm
Installation - about 10mins.

There's a good source for just starting out in the travel trailer arena.

Check out this site:

Here is an excellent discussion, if not the best, about installation of the factory ITBM:

Netman66 did a good job of documenting the install.

I have a 32 foot 10700 lb Hornet. I had my RV dealer install a Reese tow package with sway bars. They also installed the trailer brake controller. I watched the guy install the controller and it took him less than five minutes. They also leveled the Ram while hitched to the trailer. I pulled it up I-90 about 40 miles two weeks ago and my Ram pulled it like a champ. i was hitting 65 mph at just over 2k rpm. The professional install of the Reese equipment and leveling was well worth the money.

Thanks for the info! I still haven t pulled the trigger on the trailer purchase, but it is good to know that it will pull well. I have looked around at a few models but I still come back to the North Trail.
