Default Shift knob?

Hello, Does the shift knob on the Floor mounted shifter just twist off? I want to replace the large ugly one with a simple black round knob. Thanks

hey I am going to undergo this task also

Apparently you can use a knife where the chrome bezel is and push down then use a screw driver to twist it open theres a thread on this somewhere on these forumz I was going to do more checking when my shifter comes in.

first use a thin blade, like a thin putty knife, slip it between the the chrome bezzel at the base of the knob and the upper black part. Gentle push it down, it will snap free, and slide down....Oh yea, I almost forgot.... there is a very small tab on the consel, to the right side of the shifter, open this tab, and push down on the pinkish tab inside, this will allow you to move your shift lever into the neutral position with the engine off, making this whole process much easier, anyway back to the removal..once you have snapped the chrome chrome bezzel loose, you will find small fingers protruding down from the black part of the knob onto the shaft...gently pry those fingers away from the shaft while pulling straight up on the knob...it will pop free and come straight up and off....don't forget to re cover your little tab opening...now you will have access to the shaft to do what ever you want....there are losts of choices...

Thanks, I'm going to try this over the weekend. Can I use any shift knob I like or does it need to be a specific thread size? Thanks!!

The shaft is not threaded, there are some companies making sleves that fit over the stock shaft, so you can add a threaded knob, and there are companies making shift handles that are secured by Allen set screws onto the stock shaft... You should do some research to find what you want.. I used a Hurst system made for Chrysler cars, very nice but very pricey also
