Default slipping tranny

hey everyone, my wife has a 99 1500 sport with 210k miles on it, yesterday she asked me to drive it and see if i knew what was wrong with it. here it is. while driving around 50 mph and slowing down for a stop sign the tranny down shifts really hard into 2nd and you can feel the engine drag or something pulling on it. then once you go to take off it sounds like it is in neutral because the rpms rack up then it slams hard into gear, happens from a dead stop into first, and a slow roll from 1st to 2nd... any ideas? do i need to rebuild it, or is it one of those cheaper fixes like bands needing readjusting, or anything weird like that?

Red face Wild Guess

Well im not quite sure what the problem is but someone here does. My guess would be possibly a bad sensor or vacumline. When was the last time the tranny got an oil change?

^+1, what's the fluid look like and smell like? if it's not a "pretty" pinkish/red color, hopefully, you can just do a fluid flush & fill and be gtg. if that doesn't fix it, then it might be time to at least get it scanned and THEN maybe get it rebuilt.
if you're gonna go, go with a smile!
