Angry Paint Job Cost

Hey guys I live in New England and decided to use a brush-less car wash and my brand new truck came out with a ton of scratches I know not the smartest move but anyway I can't stand them and they are driving me crazy. I brought it to a detailer and they supposedly tried to wet sand it and it looked great until it rained. Basically I'm wondering what would be the ball park cost of getting my truck repainted. There were scratches on every panel but the tail gate, and I don't know if it makes any difference but I have the Brilliant Black Crystal Pearl paint. Thanks for any help.

Not to burst your bubble or anything, but the issue in Japan has affected many of the paints for Chrysler. This includes the Brilliant Black. I know this because mine is on order and was almost not able to get the Brilliant Black. Also looking on the Chrysler site when building a Ram, the Black along with other colours are no longer available. Sorry for your luck and hopefully you can get something figured out.

I'd get to a reputable body shop, one that does the high end cars and have them try to fix the wet sand and get the clear polished out for you. Even if you go the paint route the clear is the only thing needing correcting, unless the previous attempt cut into the color coat. A good body shop can do the wet sand and apply a clear coat and make the turck look like new. I've seen my brother-in-law fix the worst scratch mess up this way on a $500,000 vintage Austin Martin.

Just my 2.

Man that really sucks. But I always thought that the body shop matches the paint and doesn't order it from Chrysler. Also does anyone know if this paint is similar to the white pearl that requires 3 coats?

I would think the colors would be in-stock at the shop's dealer. And as you indicate most have the colors mixed from local supplies and the issue in Japan shouldn't affect the potential to have your truck repainted. As for the three coat system - that is common for most pearl finishes.

Yes, that is time for a color sanding and then a new coat of clear. Basically they will wet sand the whole surface and feather out the deepest scratches and if needed will dust with color then apply a full coat of clear. That's what the Austin Martin DB9 needed that my B-I-L did.

Agree with RedRam10, as long as the scratches aren't too deep, and the Detailers didn't destroy it somehow, a reputable Body Shop should be able to get you goin again. And most Body Shops, at least that I've seen, color-match and mix the paint in house, so the Japan issue shouldn't hold things up, if you even need another color-coat that is. Good Luck !

Redram10 do you happen to know how much that cost on that car. I know it's two types of vechicals but I'm trying to get a ball park idea of the cost
