I used to have a 92 chevy with the 5.7 TBI, and I can tell you they like gas a lot, the seats are not as comfortable as dodge's, 98 RAM has 4 doors (quad cab) chevy doesn't, RAM has a front diff., chevy doesn't, my first truck was an 82 dodge, then I bought that chevy trans. got burned so I fixed it and sold it, then bought a 94 RAM 4x4 and got in love, sold it and got a 98 RAM quad cab, after that I got a 96 RAM with a manual trans. that is the fastest truck I ever had, and now I got a 97 club cab, all of them with the 5.9 magnum.

My opinion is the chevy because of the reliability, my brother has had in the past 4 years a 1990 and right now is driving a 1992 silverado. HE GETS 19 MPG IN THE CITY, AND HAS OVER 403,000 MILES ON THE ORIGIONAL 5.7 MOTOR. These early 90's chevy's are proven and i think the most reliable trucks out there. But it really all depends on what you know about the truck and wich truck your getting.

Theres good and bad trucks. some people hate dodges becasue the first one they ever baught had nothing but problems because they got one from the bad batch. There is also dodges with over 200,000 and 300,000 miles on them because of the right maintenance and care at the right time.

I love the Chevy's reliability but Dodge is one thing i have liked since i saw the first dodge ram i ever saw. The looks (particularly 98's and up) the interior's the great sounds you can get from them just everything about them i loved and i finally got one last year. My dodge has 264,000 miles on it and has no problems whatsoever.

The reason i baught it was because the guy i baught it from was my boss at work and had every single receipt from the first repair he did on it since 2000 he was the second owner and the first owner was a guy working from the same company.

My first truck was a 1997 chevy pickup with a 4.3 vortec v6. most reliable truck ive ever seen. drove it for a year n a half put 40,000 miles on it and only thing i replaced was the origional fuel pump with 249,000 miles on it.

So bottom line is all depends on wether its a good maintained well taken care of truck. its allways better to know the history of one. Multiple factors in the decision of two trucks.

My uncle has a 97 Silverado with the 350 Vortec and that truck gets up and goes a lot better than my 97 ram with the 360. His is all stock and mine has Headers, Flowmaster 40, and a Cold Air intake. My truck is a 2500 and his a 1500 and mine has the 8ft bed and his is the short bed but still. I think the problem with mine is the plenum gasket. This summer I am going to fix it and give it a new cap and see how the two trucks compare after.

Dude go with the Ram your already a member here! Its a 4x4 and has a 5.9 magnum come on. If speeds the issue then save a few bucks and stroke that muther out!! 450 plus hp and a janormous amount of torque. I had a 98 350 vortec with cai, and true dual xhaust. It did pickup and go no dout about it but after putting a bit of stress on the block when towing I frekin blew my head gaskets down the block. It just didnt run right after that. My 5.9 I got now out towed my previous 5.7 vortec. Although i do think my vortec was slightly better on gas.

As long as it doesn't say Ford on it and both trucks have been well maintained either one will give you fine service and look good doing it. Parts for the Chevy are easier to get in general. Working on them is about the same. The Chevy does have an IFS, which is an automatic turnoff to me in 4x4's...but it does ride better. I'd be surprised if the Chevy is much cheaper than the Dodge, since Chevys hold their value well(and GMC's even better).

Of all the trucks I sold for all the years I had my dealerships I could always count on the Dodges and GM's to be "Sell 'em and forget 'em" units. Just good trucks. Fords...well, eventually it got bad enough I stopped selling Fords. When I closed down, the last thing around was(is) a XLT Lariat Extended cab 4x4 needing, as always, an oil pump and bearings. It's still sitting there(if anyone needs a beater, $1200 and it's yours).

as youve noticed from every single post, you can go one way or the other. My buddy has a 99 chev, and hes on his 3rd rebuild of the 350 vortec. thats 100 percent our fault for beating the life from it senslessly. i had a 99 ram at the same time with a 318. i went thru 3 diff trans before i got rid of it. my 2000 ram has had 3 diff trans as well. Ive also had a 93 chevy 350, beaten to death, connecting rod parts thu my oil pan. LITERALLY it will come down to you choosing what truck is currently in better shape, because sooner than later somethign will go wrong. but thats the fun part! fixing things. and since only a few have said it, i might as well. DODGE forum means my vote is THE RAM.

I have owned a 91 Sierra and own a 2001 Dodge Ram now I will break it down for you.

Dodge-Disadvantages are transmissions, dash cracking is something I have been lucky with but most are horrible, gas mileage sucks period, Parts higher and the parts you mentioned switches starter etc. they go out on every car doesnt matter what it is so not really something to consider you are talking about older trucks here, I had rear end problems in mine too(it now has new rear end and tranny), Heater Core problems and dash has to pretty much be dismantled to replace.

Advantages-towing power vs. 5.7, factory clearance height, More cab room than chevy, 5.9 with routine maintenance is one of the longest lasting engines in my mind, Not everyone has one

Chevy Disadvantages-If you stay with 94 your ok, 95 models and some newer had the same transmission problems, my father is die hard chevy and I can vouch for this, Faster but less torque, Chevy dashes these years crack too dont worry just not as bad, Everyone owns one, Cv axles compared to straight axle, I personally think the Dodge extended cab truck looks better than the Chevy extended cab,

Advantages- You can go to LMCtruck.com and order everything you want new for really reasonable price, higher demand so prices tend to be cheaper on just about everything at a normal parts store, I know I have worked at one for about 8 years, Aftermarket bolt ons add more power than the Dodge,

On Both- Both are cheap to add performance bolt ons, Both have great motors, Both are about the same quality truck as far as exterior goes, Parts are easy to come across on both, Both are respected trucks, And Most importantly both beat FORD any day

You can't go wrong with either engines. I have a 5.9 single cab and it has good power, it lacks a little bit on HP but it has a great amount of torque (345 ft/tq) if not mistaken. But the 5.7 from what I've heard is a very reliable engine too. Probably the best chevy has built. 330 HP and bout same amount of torque. My friend has one with 210,000 miles an it still runs strong. Either way they both good engines!
