Default Doh!!

Well after waiting patiently for two months for my special order fully loaded Big Horn 4X4 to get here, I was notified on the first that it was in trim and would be shipped the next day. I had an expected delivery date of April 11, 2011. I have been so excited for the past week I couldn't sleep. I called 5 minutes ago to ask what time I could come down and pick it up only to learn that there is some sort of "rail delay" due to the disaster in Japan...WTF?!?! How is Japans devastation affecting our rail system? Is there some magical train I am unaware of that can levitate once it reaches our borders and traverse the Pacific Ocean? And how much supplies are we shipping there that it delays normal rail delivery by TWO WEEKS!

Anyways, now they are saying maybe the 24th....GRRRRR!

That sucks! I had heard others saying there were rail delays but this is the first I've heard of it being related to the disaster in Japan.

You ordered BLACK, Chrysler, Ford, BMW, & AUDI get the paint pigment from the factory in Japan, both Companies are looking for alternate pigment suppliers

Some car colors will be harder to get because a paint pigment factory in Japan was damaged and shut production. As a result, Ford is telling dealers to stop ordering "tuxedo black" models of its F-150 pickup and Expedition and Navigator SUVs. It's also shifting away from some reds. The moves are precautionary, Ford said. Chrysler told dealers it also was temporarily restricting color orders.

The plant that makes the pigment, run by Merck KGaA, won't resume production for four to eight weeks, and that depends a lot on progress in cleaning up the nearby damaged nuclear power plant, a company spokeswoman said.

The factory is in Onahama in northeast Japan, about 30 miles from the damaged Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant, which is leaking radiation.

"For both the timing of the repair start and for its timely completion, we are dependent upon the availability of infrastructure and utilities as well as upon developments at the Fukushima power plant," Merck KGaA spokeswoman Phyllis Carter said Monday.

The company makes pigments around the world, but the Onahama plant is the only one that produces the type used in many automotive paints, she said.

The lack of colors worries some dealers, especially when popular ones like black could be in short supply.

The workers are in the Pigment plant, cleaning up, repairing walls & machines, but, they don't really think that they will be back up to FULL production until June & ships take about 2 weeks to cross the Pacific

some auto makers have already shut down their factories, like GM can't get certain sensors & air bag parts

Does anybody know how to type the buzzer sound from a game show when a contestants answer is so wrong that it doesn't even rise to the level of just wrong.

I'm pretty sure I said that the truck was in trim 10 days ago, ready to ship...it's not waiting for paint, its totally done and sitting in a gigantic lot in Detroit or wherever waiting for a ride to CA.

I didn't notice that you typed that it was in the shipping stage, my bad

but for others that are waiting on their vehicles
Chrysler Canada news
Due to a potential paint pigment shortage from a supplier that has been impacted by the disaster in Japan, Chrysler is restricting the scheduling of orders of vehicles in the following colors:

Nero (Black) - PXR
Rame (Copper) - PLB
Pearl White Tri-Coat - PWH
Brilliant Red Tri-Coat - PRA
Chrysler Canada has indicated that this scheduling restriction is necessary as they work through timing and availability issues with the supplier base.

Chrysler news
It turns out that one of the most common components in automotive paint, a pigment called Xirallic, is manufactured only in Japan, and is found in many Ford and Chrysler colors. For the time being, there is a hiatus on all Fords being built in Tuxedo Black, and three shades of red. The Chrysler constraint is even deeper with 10 colors (isn’t that most all of them?) being off limits, including Brilliant Black, Blackberry Pearl, Deep Cherry Red, Red Line, Inferno Red, Bronze Star, Rugged Brown, Hunter Green, Ivory, and Billet Silver.

I hadn't noticed a slow down or a delay in rail traffic... if anything it has increased in the past month or so... perhaps it's because of the issues that the CN is having..

*here's sending good vibes your way for a timely shipment*
