Angry Security System NOT standard?!?!?!

In the year 2010 I figured there wasn't a vehicle made that didn't have the remote lock/unlock and a security system installed. Well I figured out the hard way that is not the case. I have the remote lock/unlock and the sentry key system and I wasn't aware that the alarm system was a complete different option.

I was broken into about 3 weeks ago and had about $1000 dollars worth of personal property stolen. No alarm or anything went off. I called the dealership and asked the sales rep if alarm systems were a "standard" option for my truck and he said if the horn beeps when you lock the doors using the key fob it has the alarm system. I told him this is not the case and then scheduled an appointment to have the service man check it out at the local dealer service center. I then found out that my $40,000 2010 Dodge Ram Big Horn did not have something as old school as an alarm system but that it was a separate option that was not equipped in my truck. To say the least I was thoroughly pissed/surprised by this. I bought a 97 Grand Prix that had an alarm system as a "standard" option. WTF!!

As you can tell I'm venting a little and warning others that they may want to check to be sure if they have the alarm system or not before they find out the hard way like I did that they don't. And maybe everyone knew about this...but I sure didn't.

Mr. Jack Daniels here I come...

A hard way to learn what we don't have. Thanks for sharing the pain.

I think you can turn the horn beep on and off within your evic without the alarm system.

don't even get the Dodge security system option, it sucks & costs a bunch
IT IS THE WORST PRODUCT EVER MADE
it doesn't stop a break in & it is very easily bypassed & the thief can drive it away

I have the dealership add on security system & i would bet that i could go through the back sliding window & take off with it, with very little knowledge, if i open the door the alarm goes off & is like every other alarm, goes off & no one pays attn.

IF you buy a Ravelco system, they might strip it in your parking area, but, they will never drive it away, unless you give them a special key
the Viper systems & there are many, give you the best security in my opinion, it can even let you know if someone is even starting to mess with your vehicle, even if your in a shopping mall store & it works for a long distance, not 75 feet away, try any where from 1/4 mile & furtther

^^^ Exactly what he said. I've never seen the real benefit of having an alarm system in place. Everyone may hear it go off but at the same time no one will care, unless of course you hear it by chance. The only way it would be useful is if you were sitting at home and you hear it go off. Not that I'm trying to be a bad guy here, I've just never seen the usefulness. Too bad about your loss though.
