If you're running a gutted cat, you're going to throw a code. The O2 sensors will pick up that you don't have a cat, and send that info to the pcm. If you're looking for more exhaust performance, you might look in to a hi-flow cat from Magnaflow with a good y-pipe and some good mufflers.

Gutting the cat will create a code.

What I don't understand is why were the cats considered defective?

Are you getting any codes now? Or did you? If so, what were they? You might have an intermittent failure of one of the O2 sensors.

if you remove your cat, you will lose alot of low end. i know this because i dont have my cat. and if you go to napa or whereever and ask for non foulers, you will need an 18mm. i think the dorman help series number is 42009. you will have to hold onto one of them with vice grips and drill about a 1/2 inch whole so part of the o2 sensor will stick thru to meet the threads. if you put the o2 sensor in the one you drill a whole in and then that one into the one you didnt modify and screw this into ur o2 port you will be fine. it will move the o2 far enough out of the way u wont get a code. all the rear o2 does is say if the cat is working, so ur just moving out of the direct exhaust. i think it cost me like $8. sure beats the o2 dummy sims that fastman sells.

Sorry for making this my first post but I wanted to know if this fix allows the truck to make the low end power again or if it just gets the light off.
