Default Installed Headrest Monitors

Well, I still have not had a chance to install all the other audio equipment I bought for my truck, but I finally got a chance to cut open my headrests and installed the monitors (pictures included).

Ignore the cables hanging down as all I did was installed the monitors. There was no point in actually running the cables through the seats and hooking them up, since I still have to rip apart the entire interior to install everything else (hopefully 1.5 weeks from now).

What do you think?

Thanks, I appreciate it. I was a little worried about cutting things up myself, but it was now or never. And luckliy it worked out really well.

Nicely done, i couldn't do it myself
if i were to tackle it, i would buy the headrests with the monitor already installed
i dislike my head rests because of the forward tilt that they have
besides, i NEVER have anyone in the back seat area
i may have to sleep back there at some point, but, not if a motel is any where close

I just bought a set of Alpine 7" monitors and will be doing this in the coming weeks. Did you test the monitors at all? With the angle I am concerned that the image will not be clearly visible.

My plan was to place them a little lower and cut the bottoms in deeper to try and get the screens more upright.

Keep the info coming on this project. I am sure I am not the only one that will be looking to follow it.

Cowboy Medic,

I tested the screens for functionality before putting them in, but that was all. I was worried about the angle as well, so i specifically got montiors with a tilt capability. It may only be a 10 degree swing up or down, but I think that will be enough. Especially as the kids get older and taller. I also though about the aftermarket headrests, but none of them had the right tilt to the headrest, and all of them were leather. I am not a leather fan as I wear a lot of shorts and tend to stick to leather and burn myself on it. So I didn't want to get a leather headrest with cloth seats.

I did discover a good thing, and a problem with the install. As mentioned in a lot of tips I came across, sometimes you can screw the frame of the monitor to the metal posts inside the headrest. My frame had holes perfectly centered over bars. I drilled 2 holes per bar and screwed those puppies in nice and tight. Problem is, mine is a perfect fit as far as depth goes (which is good for me) but bad had they been deeper units. The bars would have been in the way and the monitor would have stuck out too far. Of course mine might be deeper frames to allow for the tilt capability, but who knows.
