They last practically forever, you take care of it use a good oil like valvoline and the stock filter it will last you a long long long time. The best part is they're cast iron block so you can just about rebuild them over and over, even if the walls get scratched up real bad you can bore and sleeve them. It's just amazing, but I do have a strict rule that when I get to 250,000 miles I would start buying new pistons, rings, rods, bearings, etc to rebuild it. But I'm only at 135,150 miles so I have plenty of time.

Respectively yes, gas engines don't seem to last as long as diesel. Diesel the average life up to the point that you are going to want to rebuild is about 300,000-500,000 miles depending on what brand diesel motor, I think cummins is suppose to be 350,000 I think don't hold me to it though please.

I haven't a vehicle that has hit 250,000 miles so I'm not worried.

Mine is a '95 and I'm sitting at 217,500 miles. I've only ever replaced the thermostat (2x), clutch, and starter. I run whatever oil looks appealing at the time of change, and have only added a Flowmaster dual cat-back. Completed a top-end clean about a month ago and it runs like a champ. I expect to rebuild the engine or swap it for a newer 5.9L in the spring.

HEY GUYS im finally back, i cant remember the last time i was on here its been a looooooooooong time. im still driving the same truck and i plan on driving it for another year before i decide getting a newer truck. But im keeping the one i have now to make a toy. I have 303,000 miles on my 318 now!!!!!! still runs awesome i seriously think the only reason its still running good is because of the royal purple ive been using since i got it. Totally worth it. i did have to get my tranny rebuilt last winter. and that got the heavy duty treatment with kevlar clutches and all the goodies and i gotta say im not afraid to drive it AT ALL and the truck takes alll my crap i throw at it. I drive aimlessly for 5 hours sometimes and have no problems at all.

Now, i did decide to get a used 318 for the purpose of my truck being a toy later on. its gonna be a mild performance build. im planning on rebuilding it, getting the block bored .030 over. I havent figured out the rest but its going to have a cam and different intake and im gonna port the heads and everything. CANT WAIT!!

New guy here, I have a 98 1500 4X4 extra cab and she has 237,000 on ther clock. New rad, thermostat, fixed the death wobble, water pump, and you basic tune up. Also just have done the TB mod and the adj. the trans cable to get alittle better shifts with her. GREAT FORUM!!!!!
