TRIPOD will become famous soon enough
Default Ol red is gone!!!

Thats a pic of the last few moments I spent with my ram (new ride is beside it) After months of talking it over, I did it. I finally folded and traded my Ram for a new Ford Fusion for my wife. She was in need of a new car to drive to work and I didnt want two car payments. I sure miss having a truck but she's happy.

So here is my new ride (her old ride)

Im not going down with out a fight tho. Ive been on the hunt for a Ram 97-01 model.

5.2 or 5.9?????

5.2 L to save money or 5.9 L to piss her off. I feel sorry for you, you gave up your truck so you can get her old car and she gets a new car. So she wins 1 you loose 2.

Hahaha, it's not as bad as you think. I won't be the one making car payments anymore. And it's kinda nice to buy five gallons of gas and drive 160 miles.

Going to look at a ram at lunch today. 99 5.9 extended cab, gas prices have really driven the prices down on trucks.
I have searched for 5.2 vs 5.9 with no luck. I'm just curious which is the better motor? It will be used mainly for towing, and hauling, not concerned about mpg.
Are these models notorious for transmission problems?

Just get the 5.9. Mine has plenty of power for whatever I need it to haul.

They both had tranny problems I think, its just in how you take care of them. You will get the better power from the 5.9.

Good luck with your search. Having had two 5.2L powered trucks, I'd personally go for the 5.9L engine!

I have a 5.2 L and my mom had a 5.9 L. There is only I think a 30 HP difference between them, it really in my opinion in this scenario depends on the transmission. I would want to get a 94-95 2500 or 3500 because they have the 46RH transmission like mine which is a legendary transmission. I am just giving info based on what I know 100%.

In my opinion 5.2L is fine for what you are doing. There is a major difference as far as MPG with the 5.2L and 5.9L. I remember my mom's 5.9L would get you 1/2 to 3/4 the distance per tank then the 5.2L. And my 5.2L actually could tow more because my 5.2L is the 2500 series 3/4 Ton axle and the 5.9L My mom had was only the 1500 series. But anyways I would just get a 5.2L if you want to go out and treat yourself 5.9L then or you can always get a HEMI
