Default Adding headers... what needs to happen???

Ok so I'm thinking about adding headers (american racing headers), Want am I looking at as far as replaceing? will the computer throw a code or will the O2 senser be re-installed? can headers be connected to the factory exhuast (cats)? How much am I looking at spending if I just install a set of headers (american racing) and a muffler (texas trans am mufflers)? Also what would be the best setup for the best price? Sorry for so many questions but I want to do this right for a decent price, btw I'm looking for a good tone but main focus is on power without throwing away my powertrain warranty if possible. If I add headers will it destroy my warranty or will it just cancel the exhuast warranty? Thanks

I put a set of Doug's headers on my 04. when I bought them in early 05 they cost about $650 out the door. Installation was not to difficult. Headers came with connectors that had bungs for O2 sensors. These headers have not given me any problems and are CA. smog approved for where I live.

I trust Doug's I had a 69 Dart Swinger with a 340 and I had a set of Doug's on it for 7 years and when I changed motors I sold the headers and they were still in great shape.

Remember you get what you pay for, shop around, read reviews and save your money for the better set of headers.

tell me about it....I've called/emailed Jegs, Summit, and ARH and asked if the longtubes for the older Hemi Rams or even the Hemi cars would work...they all pretty much said "if it's not listed in the description, I wouldn't advise it"....

but reading here the older ones "should" fit....I'm sorry, I don't want "should"...so I'll go with the ones I know will fit

Not really, $1500 for the set is alright. If you want to get a set of long tube headers that will be very good with flow and stainless steel. I am looking at Dynatech headers and they will run the same amount. You also get the cats and Y pipe which will complete the exhaust system. If you get the headers you should really get the cats and the Y pipe to keep the great flow going. The cats that come with the kit wont throw any codes since your sensors will be used still. I definitely would go with the whole kit to make sure it works great.

If you go with the headers and spend the money then you should look into getting an exhaust kit. That will keep the 3" pipe going all the way out to the end. If you get the headers you will still see an improvment in hp but even more with the full exhaust. You could look at the Mufflex kit or Cherry bomb. They make a kit that will pretty much take care of the exhaust. You may have a little bit of pipe that would be stock size but you could always go and buy a piece of pipe and throw it on. Or you could buy a full kit haha. It does get expensive, but it would be worth it.

You could look at other brands for the headers and they should work the same. Only thing is they wont include all the rest of the parts, like the cats, Y pipe and the pipe going from the headers to the cats. The other brands of headers will usually just give you the headers. The headers should also be long tube if you want to see the most power gains. The shorty headers will pretty much make the truck sound different, and maybe a small amount of power at low end. All headers are made different. The guys like American Racing and Dynatech that are expensive are the best built and designed. There is a reason why you spend more money for a better product. I live by "you get what you pay for"

Ya I would definitely go with headers that say the WILL fit the truck. When I was looking at Pacesetter headers they went to 06 and I have a 07. I dont know what the difference was but I said nuh uh to that. Really the Pacesetters are alright but the Dynatechs are much better

I just spoke to magna charger this week because we are putting a supercharger on a customers vehicle... asked if there was anything else we needed.... (customer has exhaust already....) He said that installing headers on our trucks is not even needed... the gains are so insignificant that it's not worth it.

Just putting that out there....
