You can see 3 layers? If I look at the edge of the glass on my 2011 sport it just looks like frosted glass. A buddy has a sport and also a new durango, and he said looking at the edge of the durango glass it was obvious it was laminated, said it looked like 2 sheets of glass with a layer inbetween them. But neither his nor my 2011 sport had it.

Regardless you can get "good" tint on the front windows for $80-100.

Just use a good quality tint and get it installed by someone who knows what their doing. Mines been on for a year with no problems. The product on my widows is called Solargard.

My 07 SLT has the layered glass. Its been tinted with good quality tint for years and no issues.. Thinking about going a little darker, but other than that, no issues what so ever...

Okay, this is very interesting and I will check with LLumar as I am a LLumar dealer. I use the ATC line and love how it installs and looks but with this information I need to check and see what the issues are by using it. I have a mobile tint business and one of my largest customers is our local Dodge dealer (why I bought a RAM RT LOL) and I have noticed the layers of glass recently on the new Chrysler 200. The heat build-up issue used to be with double pane glass that had an air gap where the auto film, mostly non-reflective would build up heat causing the air to expand and blow out the glass. Given there is no air I don't see how this can cause glass breakage or discoloration over time. Not saying this is false inforamtion but I don't know if it is cause for great concern. I have tinted several windshield with no issues at all and in all cases you need to use a non-metalic film so the remotes and radio will continue to work. Just a word of caution on "quality" film and "quality" installers... You can make anything "look" good so do your homework on who you hire to tint your windows. As for the quality of film I have used Solorgard, Sungard and LLumar. LLumar is by far the best film I have used and I personally think it look great after installed. With that being said I am not suggesting the others are bad as I used Sungard for 15 years but when the heat shrinking became big LLumar works much better. Last is, unless the shop is willing to show you the box your film came in he can tell you anything you want to hear and you won't know what you have for years because even the cheap film, not autozone cheap-cheap crap, will look good for years. I will check with LLumar and repost on this issue....

I thought I would just add to the original... I tried to catch someone at LLumar on Saturday but they are out. After doing some google searches it seems the link on here is a copy and past but correct. The heat can cause issues with the outside pane expanding in an uneven fashion but I still need to hear from LLumar before getting too excited.

I talked to LLumar on Monday and they were not aware that Dodge / Chrysler had gone to the layered glass. I was told that if 35% or lighter was installed there should not be any heat buildup issues. However, the darker films can cause problems in extreme heat situations. They did say that dark film, 20% and more, are installed all the time with no major issues. They did suggest using their metallic line that is a reflective film to remove all risk. I have only applied 35% to the new 200's and Chargers so far and don't have plans of pulling any off at this point.
