If you take in enough water to hydrolock the engine, it will be obvious to the techs and they will automatically void your engine warranty.

Warranty will not cover abuse so it's either insurance (if you are covered for that loss) or out of pocket to rebuild or replace the engin.

Ha water in to engine Im having flashbacks to a month ago. Made it one way didnt make it back. A engine cant compress water so you could break a rod hydrolock and engine kill a plug/pack and dryfire. Ive had a few friends screw up their jeeps/truck w/ water and have it covered w/ some creative lies to the warranty companies and some people like me having to go outta their own pocket. It all depends how much the inspector from the insurance company knows/wants to look into the tear down my advice just get a snorkel

btw 1000th post :]

Congrats!!!

And you are right....sucking in enough water will kill the engine and you'd have to hide that fact from the inspectors. Of course, if they insist on seeing a tear down, yer screwed as they know what a hydrolock looks like...all that water seeping out of the block is a total giveaway...LOL

Water in motor is usually money out of pocket.

I did that on a 2001 Dakota 4.7 It had a horrible miss I spent a couple hours cleaning it up . Then drove it for about three days maybe two miles a day to work hoping the miss would go away . finally took it to dealer they said it blew head gasket they replaced it "that didn't help " then they realized it threw a rod and stuck up top . So they replaced motor . All was covered by warranty . Yes I know I was Real Lucky .

Thats almost exactly what happened to me but my mechanic at the dealer said it was misfiring b/c of a plug than the misfire broke the rod my warrant was going to cover it b/c me and my mechanic proved it wasnt hydrolocked by the security camera footage of me driving it to the shop but the warranty said spark plugs are basic maintenance so its my fault shoulda just keep em dry

If you ever get into a deep hole, keep your foot on the gas, the exhaust pressure will prevent water from getting into the engine through the exhaust pipe vacuum. If you suck water in from the intake, it should kill it right away. If you weren't WOT when it happened, you might be able to pull the plugs and turn the motor over to get the water out of the cylinders. Get home and change the oil and you might be okay. It would be much less obvious to the techs what had happened, especially if you changed the oil a couple times. Make sure you change all the other fluids too, because chances are if you were in water that deep, you went over the vent lines for the tranny and diffs.

I had my jeep up to the seats in mud and water and drove it home. I had a little electrical issue, and had to replace the distributor and rotor and wires, but other than that, it was no worse for the wear, but I did all the above maintenance just to be sure.
