Default Do I really need the oil splash plant under the intake?

What happens if I don't put it back on?

on one of my older vehicles i took off all the splash pans under my engine area, that vehicle also had guards around the wheel area

almost the first time i was in a slightly flooded area, my vehicle got splashed enough to cause my spark plug wires to get wet & my engine died
took some wd-40 & a lot of rags to get me going again

the splash guards keep all the water and mud from spitting up into the engine bay keeping electrical safe from the elements. also spitting up into the fat slappin it all over the place.
