Default Towing questions

I'm going to be towing my brothers 01 ram 1500 sport to NC from DE and renting a trailer from uhaul. they asked me what my hitch rating is, they told me where to find it, but the way its mounted i cant see it. I know my ram came with the tow package. I dont know if the hitch comes with the tow package factory or not though ? Id really like to avoid taking off the hitch since its rather rusted on lol.

Also while im towing his truck, should i keep mine in tow/hual mode the whole way down or is it ok to let it drop into O/D ?

any tips on towing this would be great ive never towed anything with my pick up befor.

its probably a class III or IV, I think its a IV though. You should be able to tell by how large a draw bar you can fit inside the sleeve(for class V anyway). Always check your mirror and remember you have the trailer behind you, i see plenty of people forget and the pop the curb with the rear axles. It would help if you have a brake controller if you plan on doing a lot of towing, the dont cost a whole lot.

U-haul trailers aren't big enough to load a vehicle that size, that's why they won't let you reserve one (my 72 Road Runner was too big for their criteria, so is my wife's Liberty).

I have rented from u-haul three times. Twice to tow jeep wranglers and once to tow a cadillac cts. I do not like dealing with the people at u-haul and it takes long to do all the paperwork but I have never had a problem with them. I have never towed anything bigger than these though and just this past weekend my buddy's 95 F-250 broke down and it was right near an equipment rental place. They only rented trailers if you got a piece of equipment though so he got a dolley and they told him his truck would fit. Horrible idea. Whenever I made a turn it looked like the axle was going to snap on the dolley and the straps were not big enough for the tires and his truck was too big the tires were hitting the wheel wells on the trailer! Needless to say we didn't make it out of the parking lot and just returned it haha. So I know this isn't much help to you just wanted to share/vent. Let me know if you find a place that rents trailers to tow larger vehicles.

I would seriousy doubt a 1/2 ton would come from the factory with a Class IV hitch although I could be wrong. I have seen a lot of people on here say they have a Class IV and then say it's rated for 500/5000. If you can not verify you have a class IV, assume it's a III and tow accordingly.
I have a Class IV. It's rated for 1,200/12,000 and stamped on the hitch itself.

1/2 tons with the factory tow package are rated at 1200/12000 with the hitch, 500/5000 on the bumper, it is a class IV hitch

What Houlin said. I've got the tow package on my 1/2 ton and the build sheet I requested indicates a Class IV hitch. Bumper says something different but indicates that the vehicles tow rating can be different...right on the bumper. Go figure...
