Default Freak Accident

Traveling down the highway this morning I met an oncoming school bus that had just turned off a gravel side road. The damn bus threw a small rock and somehow I took it in the passengers side window. The window totally blew out, sounded like a gun went off in the cab of the truck. Needless to say it was a windy cold ride home, it's a balmy 38F/2C today. I was an hour out from home, the HVAC barely kept me warm thank god for heated seats and a heated steering wheel. Never before have I had something like this happen.

The worst part (pics to come) is the passengers side door from the door handle up is scratched to hell from the glass falling out of the window. I doubt insurance will cover the scratches from the glass. Thankfully nobody was riding shotgun as they would have been covered in glass. I'm actually surprised at how much glass I have all over me on the opposite side of the truck. Another thing, getting glass shards out of those ventilated seats is a real pain in the a** (no pun intended!) well kind of

I feel for you on that....I tossed a rock from my tires up at a buddy in his minivan behind me a few years ago and he was a ways back following me down the road. Never can plan for some incidents. Hope it gets fixed...glad you didn't panic.

Dang! Better cold than raining and cold. Glad you are ok. I took a piece of drywall, that a truck kicked up, to the drivers side of my last truck. I was running 85 in four lanes of heavy traffic. I never had a chance to hit the breaks. It would have just caused a bad wreck if I had. I just ducked, in case it came through flat. Lucky for me it hit virtical on the flat side. I was covered in glass.

the City, County, State, & Federal Governments all have to have insurance, most of them are self insured
All other companies carry an outside insurance
You can call a number for that bus company & make a claim, if you know the companies name, the roads name or number, & approximate time & even better the buses #
i bet you can get everything fixed by that companies insurance

When something like a rock is on a fairly hard surface & tire hits it just right, the rock shoots out harder than if it had been shot out of a slingshot!

I'm not sure about AB, but in SC, if something (rock or whatever) comes off of the road, the damaged vehicle has to file against their own insurance or pay out of pocket. It is not the vehicles fault in front unless it falls off or out of the that vehicle (rock falling out of a truck bed).

Good luck either way.

LMAO! Well I was out by Busby right beside a great pasture full of gophers and that was my first thought....someone just shot my truck!

Well $395.00 later it's all fixed but now I have another task to complete. The glass shop didn't clean all the broken glass out of the bottom of the door. So I'll have to pull the panel and clean it out. I can't complain though I basically paid full retail for the window and got free installation. I wondered why I got such a smokin deal.... and here I thought it was from being a return customer.
