Default Blower motor problems! Help IM HOT!!!

Long time since my last post, Been working a lot lately trying to do some things to my truck.

anyway, lately my blower motor has started to slow down. On high its slow and on the lowest setting it might as well not be working. You can hear it want to speed up and slow down faintly sometimes. And sometimes ill turn on the ac and the blower wont even come on.

Is it my blower motor resistor or the motor? Both are $50 parts so i dont wanna gamble and guess it. I dont wanna waste money!!! Help please, its hot. Im in the heat all day at work and i atleast want a cool ride home! If y'all cant tell me what it is for sure, Can i test the blower motor while its still in the truck? Just unhook the connector and hook a + and - wire to it and see what happens? And how many volts should i throw at it? 12?

Not sure where to point you, but if it were me I'd buy both parts and try the blower motor replacement first and return the resistor if that took care of things. Resistors don't go out as often as motor do.

Since the blower seems to work at some speed, I would lean towards the resistor / controls being bad.. If the blower fan was dead, I dont think it would spin up and probably make some weird noises when it does spin..

Check with your local parts store, maybe you can pickup the blower and test it in the parking lot, it that doesnt help, then return and exchange for the resistor. My local Autozone sometines lets me test some non-engine related electrical parts in the parking lot.. For me, it depends on who is at the counter ;-)

My 2 Cents..

The blower is working off of 12v and the resistor is connected to the ground side of the motor, the resistor is connected to the speed switch. It should have 12v hot with the key in the run position. Find you a jumper wire of the correct gauge wire and jump the ground side of the blower to a known good body ground and see what happens(key off when connecting then turn the key to the run position). If the blower spins faster replace resistor block. if not replace blower.
