Default Vararam install w/pics

Ok so the weather was in my favor today so I installed my Vararam. 1st pic is before I got started. The next four are the new parts. I forgot to take a pic of the scoop that goes behind the bumper.

It took me three hours to get this done. The first part was getting the old stuff out and setting up for the new stuff. they give you an extension wire for the cold aid sensor in the event the one you have wont reach. And as luck would have it I had to use it. They could have done a better job on the connecter. I had to guess as to which way it went in. The two prongs were different colors red/black and the two wires going into the connecter were blue/blue w/yellow stripe.

Getting the filter on was easier than I thought it would be however running the hose was tough. On the driver side i had to squeeze it through on top of the power steering pump and under the radiator. Cut it to length and put the clamps on. Now the passenger side was tighter and saw no other choice but to run it under the frame. Not happy about that one bit. Though I doubt it will give me any problems. Will try to find another way to make it fit. The hose is very tough so I may try to squeeze it through another way. I just don't want to have to crush it to get it in.

Last pic is where the bracket rubs on the AC compressor hose. As a temp fix I stuffed a rag in between to keep it from rubbing. I have a piece of hose I am going to cut and slide on the bracket to protect it when I get the chance. Also going to tape up the extension wire once I am sure I plugged it in the right way.

I took it for a quick ride to see if I could feel any difference.... Boy did I! Big difference from stock and at WOT it sounds like a monster comes alive under the hood. Didn't get a chance to see what my MPG was before the switch so I wont be able to tell if my mileage goes up or not. Never really cared about it anyway so no big deal. I was only looking for performance anyway.

Keep an eye on how well the filter seals, no matter what i did dirt and debrix would get by due to the plastic cover an base flexing. In general just keep an eye on everything, after 4 months i sent mine back for a full refund.

I just installed my vararam last thursday and i to had to run the passenger side under the frame. I didn't see any other way to do it that wouldn't compress the heck out of the intake hose.

From a performance standpoint i can throw in my experiences from this weekend. After just installing the vararam thursday night I drove the truck from Wichita to KC Friday evening to visit my girlfriend (now fiance) for the weekend and set a new record for total miles on one tank of gas. My previous best was 321 and i got 340 out of this last tank, 60% highway 40% city. I was very pleased. The sound is amazing at WOT and the acceleration improvements are very noticeable. As long as the kit holds up i am very satisfied.
