i haven't noticed any significant difference , we had a tonneau cover on our 05 QC 4.7 when we got a travel trailer we then got a cap to be able to haul more camping gear and to try to help with mileage. with that truck i didn't see any big difference either towing or not

that is why they make most caps at the same level as the roofline, no drag
only the weight that you put under that cap will make a MPG difference
the more weight, the less MPG

tks gt, on my 3500 cummins quad cab 4x4, i did notice a drop in my mpg after i put a cap on, but i did have a jericho high body which extended over the roof line, but diesel fuel was about 1.05 when i first bought that truck and didn't care lol. now my big dilema is putting a cap on my 11 reg cab short bed 4x4, i don't think it will look all that great, but i also don't want my dogs screwing up my nice new interior. what to do, what to do?

Dogbox if it's cold.

If it is warm out, I just installed a tie out cable between the tie downs at the front of the bed and leash them to it. They can roam from one side to the other, but it isn't long enough that they could jump out.

both are excellent options, i already bought the tie downs, as this would allow me to just get the flat bed cover i wanted, BUTTTTTT...... the wife doesn't think its safe, she is usually pretty good about things but sometimes i am better off just giving in to her no matter how wrong she is.

Mine have never tried to jump out, but I leash them in just in case. My older dog used to ride in my jeep with me with the top and doors off, and he only tried to jump out once, to chase after a small furry critter (can't remember if it was a cat or squirrel).
