Don't know where to point you, have you pulled the control panel out to see if there are any loose connections or if there is a loose vacuum line under the hood?

Default Replace the check valve

This is a known problem on the trucks, under load the ac switches to defroster vents. It is due to a faulty check valve in the ac line going to the ac heat control module.

I agree with redram, it sounds to me like vacuum line leak. Not sure if on the ram the vents are operated by vacuum, but would bet they are, I know my 1997 s10 had vacuum lines that operated the vent doors and on the highway it wouldn't work properly(they were dry rotted/cracked, replaced them and it was like new). Try finding a diagram and start with vacuum lines, they are cheap.
