How It Got Hydrolocked
I was being a typical 16yr old guy, going mudding with buddies. didnt relize how deep the water was, went threw it the Air Intake sucked all the water up, and my truck died. we pulled it out tried to start it up and it made a horrible grinding nosie, and the motor is locked up. i took it to the shop they said they will pull all the plugs and drain the water then see if she will turn over. they havnt called me back, but im staring to think of the worst.

Well, theses are questions I can't answer, but I would look in my local phone book and call a few junk yards, or recycling yards and see if they have any 5.7's and what they were going for locally. Many of the High School auto shop classes would take on the fun of the rebuild for the experience and all you have to cover is parts. Seeing you are 16, I'd take a walk over to see my shop teacher and ask.

Good luck.

Never try to start an engine that has sucked in water!

Sorry to hear about your misfortune. Junkyards, online engine sites, and last option the dealership. Another option if the block and heads are okay would be to rebuild it.

As for the install, check with local tech schools too, a lot of times they will do the labor for free for a learning opportunity, but you may have to wait a while to get it back. They generally take their time getting things done.

That's actually some good advice from RedRam10. I know our local technical school that has an automotive program does that, they take care of all the labor since they get credit for it and you get free work so long as you pay for your parts. My ex took those courses so I also knew the teacher, but I did get a lot of good, free work done on my Jeep that just wasn't feasible for me to do at home, but good luck!

Myself and some others I know, have watered out dirt bikes before.
This is a few years ago when they were 2 strokes.
The solution then was to pull the (1) spark plug and turn the bike upside down for a bit.
Have you tried that with your truck?

All kidding aside, I hope you get your truck going with minimal expense.
Also, congrats on having your own truck at 16!

Jeff

I think that flat rate at most dealerships is around $100 per hour. I have a friend that has his own shop and he charges $75per hour. I agree with checking wrecking yards etc. There is a 6.1 Hemi & trans advertised in the local Craigs list here in Austin-- Engine $4900 and trans $950.
