Default 86 D150 losing power

I have a 86 d150 318 with a holley 2280 series carb on it. Once the truck is running you can drive it down the road for a minute and then it will die out. It has been driving me nuts. I have completely cleaned the carb and gastank, put new fuel lines and filters in, cut off the cat, and replaced the fuel pump. I noticed the idlestop solenoid wasnt working so i was wondering if that could be an issue. Also wondering if it could be the choke thermostat or diaphragm causing all of this

Well the first thing I am going to say if to replace what doesn't work so replace the idle stop solenoid.
Then I am going to say try and do a compression test just to see how the cylinders are all doing, sometimes you can have a bad gasket and you loose some power. Sometimes worn rings, you could be fouling spark plugs and loosing power that way.
Also check into the diaphragm which is a possibility. But seriously I would check into doing a compression test just to be thorough. I couldn't see it being a problem with the compression because it is fine for the first minute but again thorough. Check to make sure the distributor contacts are clean and not corroded, if corroded then clean them with a nail file.

The compression is fine, no need to test it. The truck starts and runs perfectly until you start driving it down the road.

Well if compression is ok then check into that idle stop solenoid. Tell me when you go to start the engine, does it start right up?

The truck starts and runs!!!! It runs great if you take it easy on the throttle. The problem occurs when you put it to the floor. It starts to backfire. If you hold the clutch in and let off the gas it will stop backfiring and then you can keep on driving.

Well their is somethings that you should try to do if not already been done.

1. Clean the distributor contacts of any corrosion and check the rotor.
2. Check the spark plugs for fouling, if they're fouling then find out what is going on to have them foul. Typical types of foul are carbon and oil foul. Oil foul is a problem. With your truck stick with old fashion copper plugs.
3. Check your timing chain make sure it isn't damaged or the chain has jump - if it jumped then timing is off.
4. Of course being it's a 86 it is not fuel injected so take the carb off and clean it inside and out with carb cleaner and compressed air. Be sure to prime the carb with some gasoline when you put it back on the truck.
MOST IMPORTANT IS HAVE THAT CARB TUNED, Usually a backfire is from having to much fuel. But this again can be lead to improperly connect the wireset. But tune the carb.
