Default Predator question... 87 tune on 87 fuel vs 91 tune (modded) to run on 89 fuel

Ok... On my DSP....
Is there any advantage to one of these over the other:

1.) Running 87 tune on 87 octane
2.) Running 91 tune on 89 octane but modifying the 91 tune to be proper for 89 octane fuel?

If #2 is the best choice, what changes would be necessary to make it happen?

Also, how do I properly log to see if I'm getting knock etc? What #'s are in a good range and what pids do I log?

Thanks guys!!

I have basically the same question. I'm trying the Superchips 93 octane tune on 91 octane fuel. But since I'm at 2200ft, I thought that I may be able to get away with it without running into excessive KR. How much is excessive KR? I was seeing a peak of about 3* for about a second or two under the most extreme loading. Under 98% of driving under various loads and rpms, KR was basically non-existent.

You can prolly check with Johan over at Diablo.. I have been running the 93 tune with 93 octane gas for a few tanks and the truck seems to be getting better and better as the computer adjusts to the new parameters.

I figure its only a couple bucks to fill up with 93 octane as opposed to 89 or 91 octane. You just have to make sure that you can get that octane where you are.

Johan just sent me a custom tune that helped with the tranny shifts and now its even better than it ever was.

Check this link, Johan has some recommended PIDs to log, you can also download the DCX file and put it in the right directory on your laptop so that its already setup for the PIDs..

Hope that helps..

I guess I'm just gonna run the 87 tune on 89 gas.
Right now I'm running 87 tune on 87 gas but don't know how to check to see if it's a problem or not...

Thats what I started out with running the 87 tune on 89. The past three fill-ups I switched to the 93 octain tune and have been filling up with 93 and with each tank the truck's performance continues to improve (including mpg's).

I was about out of gas anyway (under 1/8th tank). I filled up with 89 octane.. drove about 75 miles and re-checked the readings... numbers look the same.

I reset to factory defaults and checked again. Now my ST ratings max was only 4.0 but only VERY briefly when MDS kicks in and out.
LT was 0 the whole time... WOT, cruising, MDS in and out... stayed at 0.

So.. what do I need to do to get the 87 tune to not show high KNK #'s?
Thanks...
