Just have the dealer reflash the PCM for the sales code for the 3.92 Gear to keep speedo, transmission, odometer and ABS functioning correctly.
Excellent advice and the even better part is these trucks don't require a PCM reflash for a ring and pinion change. The tone ring is located in the rear axle and is not affected when changing gears.

The dealership stated that our powertrain warranty would be null and void if we changed our gears, the district manager stated that he would no reccommend it all. So if we changed our gears to 3.92 and lost our transmission at a later date they wouldn't replace it nor anything else related to the powertrain

you'll prob get 5 differennt answers from 5 different dealers.

anway, if you did a gear swap and your transmission did go out....they prob wouldn't know you had different gears unless they popped the cover on you rear diff.

Yeah there is a clause in the warranty that says if a covered part fails because of a non covered part, then it is not covered.

there's probably a clause for everything in the fine print. the dealer could deny you a drivetrain warranty for a cai and an exhaust if they really wanted to be hard asses. all they have to do is tell you sorry it's not covered b/c of reason x,y or z. then it's on you to start making calls to chrysler to get your warranty covered.

I once had a dealership try to deny a claim I had on my '95 wrangler's dana 35 b/c I had installed a 2" body lift! I was running a little set of bfg 30x9.50 tires which were barely bigger then the stock 235/75-15s. After a couple of phone calls they told me to bring it in.

So we towed @ less then our spec weight and the light came backon. It was the torque converter, we just got the truck back after 10 days in the shop, so we are going to try towing again in a few weeks

I was going to ask what the CEL revealed as far as codes.

With respects to the warranty issue, if a Dodge shop installs the 3.92's, your warranty will survive. There are plenty of that model truck that were built with that transmission and 3.92 gears.

I would ask...any other problems (besides the CEL) when towing? Getting hot, loss of power, etc???

I called and emailed the Chrysler "contact us" at their website regarding the lifetime warranty if the axle gears were changed. Their reply was that if the dealer did the gear swap, then the warranty would remain valid, if anyone else did it, it would be void. When I reminded them that the wording on the lifetime warranty does not say that, they stopped answering my emails. Read the warranty closely and you'll see that anything that came with the truck would still be covered. The customer service folks are trying to scare business towards their dealers. I would think that if they denied a claim on the engine or transmission for a OEM ratio change, all you would need to do is take them to small claims court for the cost and any reasonable judge would rule in your favor.

The solution shouldn't be spending large $ and getting a new diff., the solution should be up to the dealer to figure out what's going on - if it says 5500 tow limit (i just checked and it shows 5650), than it should tow it, period. Unless your trailer is much heavier than advertised, have you weighed it?
