Default Cams and Roller Rockers

Okay, so I think I've decided what I really want to do with my truck is get a new cam with 1.7 roller rockers and have Hemifever tune it with a SCT tuner. I think I'm skilled enough to do the rockers myself. I keep seeing from where I've been reading that I should also replace the valve springs when I do the rockers. Is this true or should I be okay running stock?

Now, the fun part. Cams. I honestly know nothing of lift or duration or cam grinds. I'm guessing lift and duration has something to do with how long the valves stay open and how far open. Am I correct? I'm also not real sure what cam to put in there. I'm wanting something to keep some low end torque, but I want more mid-high hp out of it. What do you think I should be looking for?

Any suggestions are greatly welcomed as I could really use some help here. I'm no big rush at all to get this sorted out, I just want to have a plan laid out for what I want to do. Thanks guys.

As far as i've been told your best bet is to call a cam company and tell them what your looking for, also i think you do need new valve springs.

I figured that I'd have to call up hughes for what cam I wanted.

I've been told if your doing a cam swap you'll want 1.6's but if your not (cant afford it) like me, Lol, then just go for the 1.7's maybe some pushrods as well. It just sucks because if you want that nasty lope sound you'll most likely need new valve springs, push rods, and heads which would get pricey very fast.

as for say, 1.7 rocker arms by harland sharp, you don't need new valve springs. Thats why they are such a desireable mod.

Ohh okay. I see now. I really really want that nasty lope sound. It sounds so beastly. But I guess that isn't gonna happen because I'm not putting that much money in to her lol. I guess I'll just try and get the new 1.7's from Harland and get my SCT and call it good.

Im not 100% sure but wouldnt there be clearance issues if you did end up using the 1.7 ratio rockers with a performance cam. The 1.7 over the 1.6 ratio in RR is to simulate a cam, I think our trucks would only be able to handle a very mild cam with 1.7's. Does anybody have any ideas?
