Default Electric Fan

I tried to install an electric fan on my truck this weekend and I was unsuccessful because i got a relay kit to wire the fan so it turns on at 185 degrees and off at 170. The relay kit came with a thermoswitch and the directions said to install it in the cylinder head or intake manifold fitting per your application. My issue is why would there just be an empty spot on either one of these locations for an aftermarket part such as this to be installed? I searched and didn't see an open spot so I'm at a stand still here. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I dont know about yours but on mine there is a threaded bung on the passenger side of the block were you could put it. That is were we put my mechanical heat guage, but it doesnt ever read over 160 so that might not be a good spot, or i got a cooling problem
