I plan to do the same to mine so it is body color when I paint the truck. The chrome will need to be sand blasted in order for the primer/paint to stick. Another option would be to color wrap it which is basically like having a giant decal stuck over it, That way the chrome is not damaged, it can be removed later down the road and returned to its original look. My chrome is bubbling (97) so I will probly have to grind/bondo some areas or bite the bullet and buy a good used one and have it blasted. Hope this helps you.

I got an aftermarket black paintable grill off Ebay for $100. Of course it's plus the cost of getting it painted but I love the new look. Whatever route you go with, the end result will look great!

The body shop I took it to said the it didn't seem like the paint was going to stick well at first, he had to put a few coats on. If you think you can make it look great and cut the cost down by painting your stocker, i'd say give it a try. Good luck and be sure to post some pics when you're done!
