Default Rear backup camera issue

Suddenly my back up camera is dark, hard to see. Sometimes its better than others. Anyone know what the problem is? I disconnected and reconnected the plug at the tailgate and wiped the lens clean with no change.

The first thing I would do is to check the connectors. One is located between the bed and the tailgate and the other is under the inspection plate on the tailgate right near the camera. Take the connectors apart and working them together and apart a few times. Sometimes oxidation will build up on the pins causing this type of problem. You can also try spraying the pins with an anti oxidant cleaner for electronics.

The next thing I would suggest is to look at the camera and camera housing carefully. A few members here had water leak into the unit and start shorting out the camera. If this is the case it would require a camera replacement.

Good luck and let us know what you find. The forums not dead, we all just got back from vacation in Tahiti.

there is also a 3rd connector, at least on mine
near the left side frame rail, close to the spare tire & left side exhaust pipe
