Default Programmer, EPS and Traction Control

Okay, so this weekend, I was helping a buddy out in his pasture, and ended up in a mud hole maybe 8 - 10 inches with a fairly solid bottom. In my old Jeep, I would have went right through this without breaking a sweat. Granted I have stock tires, but even in 4wd I had a hard time getting out because of the stupid traction control and EPS. 4 LO didn't give me enough wheel speed to get out, so I went back to 4 HI and found that i can turn off the EPS by holding the traction control button for 10 seconds or so. However, it was still doing something, because I couldn't change between forward and reverse quickly because there was a whining groaning noise (kinda like when you have the brakes on, and then just barely let off). It would last maybe 5 seconds, and by the time it stopped and I changed directions, all momentum was lost.

Will a programmer completely disable all this junk for city yuppified never been off road drivers, so those of us who plan to USE our truck, can? I had a Chevy mechanic with me and he said the new GM's do the same crap. Why can't they make trucks for those who want to work with them?

You'd have better luck with a Power Wagon. If you want something functional you'll probably have to build it yourself--or buy a winch

I thought about a 3/4 ton, and especially the Power Wagon, but the price was a bit much. Plus the ride wasn't near as nice. I can add a winch, lift, tires, lockers, gears, but I am still stuck with a truck that doesn't want to go when it gets off the paved road into something slightly slippery.

I didn't realize I would stump everyone with this question. How can they build a 4wd truck and add a feature that renders it helpless off road? I think the button should have been to turn on traction control, make it the exception and not the rule. It is nice at highway speeds when you might hit a slick spot, but no other time do I want it, nor think it is necessary.

The programmer will disable MDS...not sure about the traction control.

I assume that in their research they found that most 1/2 tons were used on the highway and not to do real "4 wheel driving and work". Most probably won't even see a dirt road or drive through a pasture. I guess they figure if you want a "real" truck to work with and go 4 wheel'n with you would buy a 3/4T although you will have to give up the soft ride. After 3 3/4 cummins I am still trying to get used to my 1/2T. It's a completely different type of "truck". I am learning to except it's limitations.

Default Wheel Spin Limiter?

I totally had the same "problem". I was out ELK hunting and went down in a slippery ravine and needed max wheel spin to get out and just couldnt get it with all this B.S on this so called truck. I spoke with the Dodge REP when he was on live here one day and he really didnt have any solutions other than to say" it does have a wheel spin limiter to protect the truck"....WHAT???? If I want to blow the truck up, that should be my choice. I am really disappointed in this truck and all its shortcomings. So, you have a HEMI but you cant use it when you NEED IT! WORTHLESS!

esp is a safety feature it is federally mandated, all cars come with it standard. basically it is some bs put into play by the govt to help lower insurance claims. The best solution i have for your problem is to remove the drive by wire, unfortunatly there is no previous model to retrofit from so u would be stuck fabricating then using a different computer capable of maintaining idle and monitoring throttle position. hell if u wanna go even more antique a carburator would do the trick!

It looks like the DSP will deactivate all the traction junk, including the ABS. I am fine with this, since the places I need it off, I really won't need the ABS either. Anyone with a DSP that can confirm this?

DSP won't disable abs. It does reduce TM but to disable abs you gotta unplug a wheel sensor.

WRONG.... DS with 9t12b crom is the new update and it DOES disable ESP & ABS. There is a menu for this. It works great at the strip.
